  • Hey y'all,

Well, we're off and running :j

I think after last month Decembers challenge shouldn't be too bad (famous last words?). The hardest bit is probably thinking up 5 wishes for next year, so far we're going with...

1 - Start a spare change tin, not to be opened till 01/01/15.
2 - Go to the Gym more often, be healthy.
3 - Visit friends more often.
    4 - Be debt free by 31/12/14.
    5 - ? TBC

As it stands our current debt free day is December 2015. I need to find an extra £6,000 this year to be debt free by the end of 2014 so fingers crossed.

    So scores so far...

    SFD…………….………….1/15
    Food........................£12/£150
    Petrol.......................£0/£160
    Entertainment...........£100/£200
    Food Bank………...…..£0/£5
    Invitations refused..…2/1
    Lunch to Work…….….0/13

]<<splutter..>>.........Is this a typo or do you know about some elixir for a long life ;) :rotfl:
Haha, neither of those. Most of this is being paid as a minimum token payment, that all my creditors agreed to. I was really ill in 2008 and I went from a 30k salary as a project manager, to living on disability benefits. I'm going to try my utmost this year to pay more towards this. This challenge is great for me, as I log in every day and am inspired by the the posts. I'm looking into a debt management plan ( a free one) to help me organise it so I can repay it all before I'm 155!

Second time lucky! Hello Decemberites!! :santa2:
So.. Here we go again, Starting the month with a spend free day and anticipating a further 2 as I am back in work tomorrow. After November's tough challenge I feel quietly confident that this month's 15 SFD target is do-able :T. The challenge will be in keeping the spends on spendy days as low as possible thus avoiding the situation of being penny wise on the SFDs and pound foolish on spend days!

Sooo.. Aim for 15 SFDs- check.. Food budget set- check.. No Xmas party plans- check.. £5 food bank donation to be made- check.. Batch cooking planned- check.. notebook in hand- check.. DFD set- check.. Lunch to work is essential- check.. Dodge the sales at all costs- definitely check!

I have started the month overdrawn by £250! And this will be slowly increasing throughout December. Kat, to answer your question, the interest rate increases from 0% to 11.9% once I go over the £500 mark and I have a feeling I am likely to end up about £700 overdrawn by payday on the 23rd. I have not set a Xmas present budget in stone (which is a failing each year) and I have not properly estimated the overall expense of visiting family! However, I know that last months overtime will sufficiently cover the excess :)

    Goals for 2014:
    * To have a £5000 emergency fund
    * To eat healthily and start juicing again on rest days. Exercise. Join a cycling/ sports club or learn a new instrument. Cook from scratch. Focus on body, mind and soul. Put Me first now and again! Aim for a healthy work life balance. Consider a career change to something less stressful. Read more books. See more culture.
    * Treat family to a weekend break together
    * Spend more time with the people that are imporatant to me :A
    * To escape this miserly reclusive shell and start living again! :j
    * To purchase a new car

Not much to ask is it :rotfl:

Im definitely orf to bed now! Nighty night all

Lol :rotfl::rotfl:wow, that was not the answer I was expecting. Well if I could hold your hand for your entire debt free journey I would, but we'll both just have to come here and inspire and motivate each other for as long as we can. :D

    Hi everybody,

Popping in for the first report of the month. I did the food bank shop and did much better than last month thanks to the food bank shopping list I found on line. Managed to get apple juice, tinned peaches, tinned fruit cocktail, porridge oats, dried spaghetti, pasta sauce and chopped tomatoes.

I forgot to list the amount that I'd budgeted for spending at the post office for sending packages back to the UK. I'd written it my paper, just missed it when I was posting.

I did a food shop today, and have bought the Christmas choccies, nuts and crisps. It came out of the food budget as opposed to a specific Christmas budget as I really don't want Christmas to cost too much extra this year so it's just presents that are coming out of the 'Christmas Budget'.

I'm still not sure whether I'm doing Christmas dinner on Christmas Day or Boxing Day as I don't have my work schedule yet, but after I saw the price of turkeys I've decided that we're definitely having chicken that's already in the freezer, so the dinner is pretty much going to be a glorified Sunday dinner with homemade crackers ;)

    Scores on the doors are:-
    SFD 15
    Food 86.49/ 187.50 46.13%
    Petrol 75.00
    Hair 56.25
    "Spend Money" 18.75
    Post Office 18.75
    Food Bank 5.07/ 5.00 101.4%

    I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!
However... I have just had another SPEND DAY! Clearly this weekend has been a little "different" to others and I haven't entirely felt like my normal prepared self. SO following the departure of DueSouthTwin who was over for food and a gossip last night I realised that I had no food prepped for the day and no desire to start at 10pm last night.

Having finished my night shift yesterday I went to bed at 0800 and woke at 1600 feeling lazy, hazy and in need of junk food. Que a dash to the little Sainbury's near me () I picked up more chips, nice peas (value ones are a bit _pale_) , juice, gravy, milk for DST, a chocolate mousse for DST and a obligatory acceptable el'cheapo vegan one for me I am suddenly I am £8.63 or thereabouts lighter ( although we were celebrating it wasn't budgetted for)......

Today I get up to create "something" in order to damage control and manage an avocado and toms for lunch with a vegemite sandwich...:rotfl:.. and an apply....although Sainsburys once again calleth with the spendature of £7.30,.....?

This isn't forgetting the money already spent on Friday cause I was "ill" - namely lots of juice and chips... which was at least another £8...

I have reciepts. I will be adding it all up. Shame on me.... It's at least £25 over the course of three days...:eek::eek:... but then I honestly think if I slide right back into being too strict after not celebrating a little I think I would crack and it's not like I don't have the money... I am just annoying myself a little!

Right so the last two peeps who wanted in ( MountainGirl and Hummingbird ) are the final entry. If ever there was a time when starting correctly and on time was important it's this here month of ye olde Christmas time... We need to do this properly - even us debt-freer ones who are getting a little too carried away with themselves...

So I am BACK ON BOARD! And will be making a detailed spreadsheet later today with all my weekends extravagances on there...apple and mango juice anyone??:o

So DST has a friend who's mother works for a charity shop. Said Mother knows of my money-saving predicament and had sent items of clothing for me last night. I am currently wearing a new knitted blk M&S dress with short sleeves with a small turtle-neck style (can we still use that description outside the 80's) and due to it's style I have been bold, given the boys something to gawp at and worn my over-the-knee leather boots to the office....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:..shame the heel is so high I honestly think I am losing circulation in my feet... and they are pushed down a bit around my legs - can't go letting 'em think I'm a proper floozy or somefink..... moving on........ there was a new coat in there too and fluffly slipper booties with fluffy baubles for Dorothy to chase...:T

So today I am in no mood to work whatsoever... I couldn't just walk out. But I won't, I will sit here like a lemming, doing what everone else has to do cause I want the money at the end of the month....

    BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope everyone else has a fun day ahead of NO SPENDING!!! :rotfl:

    Onwards I tell you Onwards...........
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".
