Lovely still being in my cosy bed at 8am - not rubbing it in Kat would I?
I think you are. Just a little bit yes.... :rotfl:“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Had a spend day yesterday but the car is full of diesel and the food bank were at Mr T's (very conveniently) so that is one challenge crossed off the list.
DH is on board with this challenge and althought I have set quite high budgets, it's the first time we've done this and I think we will probably underspendbut I'd rather set the budget slightly high and succeed than make it unrealistic and fail. Will try and update with budgets and goals when I'm not at work! and have more time
Good luck everyone, we can do it

Not a good start, feeling really ill with earache so meal plans when awry and ended up with a takeaway! Noooo…. But managed to readjust the christmas budget and so not too bad in the end.
Have been inspired by reading everyones plans for 2014 so am going to get onto that today. Will be hard to narrow it down to 5.October Grocery Challenge £4000 -
Happy DDD!!
First check in. Never really get the chance on a Sunday. Today should be SFD number 2 (ruined a November one for my first December shop, number see signature). So a good start and not spend too much yet. Only 8 days of work left and then I'm off home. I also started a detailed spreadsheet listing my groceries spends so I find out what goes on meat, snacks, veg etc, although December might be a bit skewed.
OH's relative passed away in Ireland on Saturday morning but the funeral is already today. So unless he wanted to spend £300 on a dash over he couldn't make it (plus the timings were odd too). His Dad and brother are going but they're going from Glasgow so had a head start. He feels gutted but that would have been an expensive trip just to pay respects for a day.
Anyeay, here are my goals for 2014:- pay £8000 wedding debt off (see below for explanation) and DFD of the 01.10.2014
- Save £680 for next years MOT, car service, and tyres
- Save £300 for next christmas and rack up loads of survey vouchers
- Finish decorating the kitchen and paint the hall on maternity leave
- Appreciate life and today more rather than wishing time away
We decided to have our wedding at the hunting lodge rather than a chain hotel in town. It feels more intimate (for 60-100 people), oldy wordly, cosy and guest get a choice (4) of each food course etc. The list goes on. It cost more but the feeling of not getting married in a 80s conference centre is worth it. Hence I also declared the potential budget (including dresses, kilts, rooms, bus, food, hire, registrar etc) as debt and my DFD will be the 01.10.2014 as this will motivate me more than saying I'll try to save this money. I'll just pretend it's debt I have to already pay off.

We need to do this properly - even us debt-freer ones who are getting a little too carried away with themselves...
Ah I am too late. That's OK, turning up on the 2nd is kind of rude. So I will cheerlead this month, and follow along while not being "official"

:santa2: Happy December Everyone! :snow_grin
Sorry I missed my first check-in yesterday, I wasn't with my computer the whole weekend so couldn't post, but have been reading via my teeny tiny mobile!
Kat - Re: Savings from NOvember thread- I won't have much for my savings pot for this month, so the real savings will start with my end of December pay, like yourself. My 'Debt Busting' Sheet on my Budgeting Spreadsheets has now been re-named 'Saving Monkey' and consequently has a delightfully smiley monkey on it holding a gold star! (ahem).
My pot allocations will be:
*Emergency Fund (this needs replenishing first),
*Hawaii (for the big 3.0),
*Car Fund (not sure my lil rust bucket will make it through her next MOT in August),
*Mini trips- I have 3 planned for 2014 (ooo its weird writing 2014) and finally...
*a study fund.
*Phew* My brain is a little boggled by how I will distribute payments over each month for 2014, but I know I will be prioritising Emergency Fund, and making first contribution towards my savings for Hawaii at the end of the month. :T
I will also be putting an action plan in place to help my Ma clear her mortgage over the next few years. This will require *a lot* of thought, work and planning though...
Anywho, December's Aims for LaD (hehe) are:
15 -SFD's
£5 -Foodbank
£80.10 - Fuel
1 x Outing has been dropped.
£100- Train fare, Winterwonderland, ice-skating and theatre (pre-paid for) with OH for his Birthday.
£30- Finish off Christmas and Birthday presents, cards and stamps.
£50 Misc- Meal and Christmas Eve Annual Reunion with old School friends.
Had a Spend Day yesterday- I *finally* bought myself some decent winter boots. I only own one pair of winter shoes which are snowboots other than them I have my 6 year old running trainers. I also bought some Christmassy crafty pens and have bought a memorial gift. Regretfully I had to buy dinner while I was out as my friend had no food at hers, but we both chose the cheapest meal on the menu and had a really good catch up so I can let that one go
Not sure how today will fair as I am deliberating as to whether to get my Food bank items today as need to pop to my lil local bank, which is next to the shop which has a food bank drop off at it. However I do not need to buy anything else...hmmm
OMG! I've just realised that I haven't opened my advent calendar the last 2 days!! I WIN 2 chocolates!! :T:coffee:

SFD number 2 today today. I'm looking sfter my baby Grandson who has an awful cold, poor little thing. He's got a really blocked nose and he's only 9 months old so he's not a happy bunny.
I'm batch cooking today and making a tuna pasta bake from scratch and also a nut roast, which I might have for Xmas dinner with all the trimmings. I was a vegetarian for over 20 years and still cook alot of veggie meals. Trouble is, I love bacon.
I'll also make a big pot of lentil and veg soup to last me for lunches throughout the week. It fills me up and stops me going for the toast and butter in the evening.
I'm trying to sort the food bank shopping out to coincide when I have to top my shopping.
It's very satisfying not spending money and I don't know why I can't manage it more often.
Today is going well and I intend to keep at it.
Hope you're all doing OK.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

I need to add a Skydive and Archery lessons onto my list for next year. I knew there was a 5th thing (or two ) that I wanted to do. I have always wanted to jump out of a plane and now I can do it and get myself there on my motorbike.... just need to get the money together....
And archery simply because it's easy fun, cheap and I want to [STRIKE]be Katniss Everdeen ....... no hang on an Elf from the Hobbit........ no hang on I want to fight zombies....
