Parking fine while picking up children

Can i ask for a bit of advice.

My son goes to a school where there is very little car parking spaces.

i went to pick him up to day and there were no parking spaces. Rather than let my four year old walk miles in the cold ( as it was freezing today) i parked for 9 min on single yellow lines causing no obstructions.

i got a ticket. When i came back there were packs of parking people nailing people on the school run.

do i have any grounds of appeal or am i screwed any help would be much appricated.

Depends on the restriction stated on the signage (single yellow will be supported by a plate). Also you may be exempt under boarding and alighting rules, meaning that there are exemptions to assist a venerable passenger in or out of the vehicle and escort them to and from a near-by building. Such exemptions are normally available for taxi/private hire drivers and will not apply if there was another able-ed bodied person in the car.

I find it hard to believe the nearest parking space would be 'miles' away from the school.

bit of exercise wouldn't have hurt your kid, good on the wardens , parking on yellow lines near a school is not safe, sadly see it all the time round here

Just park on the pavement, verge, across driveways, double park or block T junction entrances like the other parents do. If this inconveniences anyone just point at the school. This will absolve you from parking rules and general polite behavior. Then kid yourself this is because your child, who the teachers have probably spent most of the day asking to sit still, cannot walk far to your car. Alternately you could be honest and say you don't want to get out of the car and walk anywhere.

There's a school on my way to work which is exactly the same. It's a melee of, dare I say it, despicable creitins (sic) blocking the road, abandoning their cars on single and double yellow lines in order to walk their little darlings into the schoolyard and then hang around chatting and smoking with their friends until the bell goes.

Good on the wardens, I say. They have my full support.

A four year old child would be regarded as a vulnerable passenger so providing that you did not cause an obstruction and you left you vehicle on the yellow line for only the amount of time to escort or collect the child into/from the school building, then you should appeal.

However, I am basing this advice on the assumption that the yellow line has just the normal restrictions (i.e. no waiting) and that you were the only person in the car other than the child.

thanks Tilt i will base my appeal on your comment. No doubt it wont be successful but ill give it a go.

Dear me. That poor child. Not only is he being taught to ignore the law of the land, but his parent resorts to aggression and abuse when anyone disagrees with his behaviour. Poor grammar and spelling, as well........

I have a 5 year old and still manage to park legally and considerately.
always astounded at parents(like myself before you question my orientation or genitalia) who dont see the danger in their parking/driving choices
