Parking fine while picking up children

Hello,

Can i ask for a bit of advice.

My son goes to a school where there is very little car parking spaces.

i went to pick him up to day and there were no parking spaces. Rather than let my four year old walk miles in the cold ( as it was freezing today) i parked for 9 min on single yellow lines causing no obstructions.

i got a ticket. When i came back there were packs of parking people nailing people on the school run.

do i have any grounds of appeal or am i screwed any help would be much appricated.

thanks

For once I'm with the parking wardens
  • I find it difficult to believe that you couldn't locate a suitable parking space that wasn't miles away.

Me too. This can be a major problem near schools.

  • You haven't much grounds for appeal. You are allowed to drop off or pick up people on a single yellow, but they only expect you to stop for seconds really, or at least stay with the vehicle.

Doesn't matter if you were picking up your son orjust pulled over to do a few cartwheels down the pavement, you parked illegally and got a ticket, that's the crux of it.

You might want to try the parking forum to see if there is any challenge you could mount but to be fair, it's a case of if you are going to do the crime... i'm afraid.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I think you may have missed something.

It's got little to do with causing an obstruction in the way i think you mean it.

You will have obscured drivers view of the pavement.

Pedestrians are at risk stepping out from behind a parked car.

Drivers coming along, even at the reduced speed they should be doing near a school, get reduced warning of the likelihood of them stepping into their path.

Even if you try appealing I fear you'll get little sympathy at best and a lecture on road safety at worst.

Sorry - but you're 'bang to rights' as they say.

I live on a private road and at the end where it joins a public highway are two schools on each side of the road, as you can imagine it is carnage in the morning with, and I hate to say it, but women abandoning their cars everywhere and blocking the road- they couldn't give a hoot and I pray for traffic wardens to come and have blitz one morning- these women are an absolute menace. Why they can't drop there fat little kids off round the corner and make them walk, no one got taken to school in a car when I was a kid and I lived three miles away from school.

There must be some parking available otherwise why drive? So leave a bit earlier & get a space. I have the same issue at my sons school, I get to the gates 10-15 mins before class ends just to ensure I get a space. Annoying by essential.
