Feedback on nationwide internet banking

If you already have the payment set up then you can't make a payment online without your card reader
Yes you can. It's setting up new payments that will usually require a card reader.Archi_Bald wrote: »In my experience, you- always need the card reader when setting up a new payee

I've had a few occasions when it hasn't required a card reader for setting up a new payee.0 -
So, thinking of moving to nationwide from smile. Most if not all my interaction will take place online so would welcome any feedback in nationwides internet banking system,
How do you find it to do normal transactions? Does it have secure messaging? Do faster payments work 24/7?
Cheers
I used to bank with the Nationwide, their internet site was reasonable. The absence of real time statements was a bit of an issue. I now use Barclays and think that their internet banking is top notch. They also have a great mobile app as well as a brilliant iPad app.
The only downside is that there is no secure messaging facility. That said you can call them directly from the app without the need to identify yourself. The mobile app also has a built in pinsentry which is pure genius. In terms of general functionality Barclays are a country mile ahead of the Nationwide in my opinion. All the best.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
There is no option of statements through the post for FlexDirect. See 3.1.

Sorry I have been with them so long it has on my accounts when I log in "go paperless" although it is a long time since I received statements from them. I still get the annual statement."Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -

This could well be so, and it may well appeal to technofreaks.
However, in terms of value, Nationwide are a country mile ahead of Barclays, and some others such as Natwest/RBS. Barclays haven't paid a penny in interest on current accounts in recent living memory, and their savings rates are nothing to write home about. Nationwide have also never been involved in LIBOR fixing.
I am not saying Nationwide are perfect but just alone the 4.25% they paid me for my ISA for the last 18 months, the 5% for the Flexdirects over 10-12 months, and the 3% on my Flexplus puts Barclays amongst the also-runs for years to come. And if I want, Nationwide will give me twice the amount of interest Barclays would give me in an instant access savings account.

Couldn't have said it better myself0 -
The lack of real time statements issue, what's that? Is that immediate updating of account balances ie as soon as a deposit is made it reflects online?0

The original post made no mention of interest rates. The functionality of the internet banking was the issue. My apologies for only answering the question and not diversifying.Money is a wise mans religion0 -

As has been noted in the past when you've made similar comments, it's key to note that you USED to bank with Nationwide.
So you're saying that Barclays' new online banking is better than Nationwide's old internet banking.
And I'm not sure how that answers the question - as the original poster will be using Nationwide's new internet banking, not their old system. The absence of real time statements was a bit of an issue. I now use Barclays and think that their internet banking is top notch. They also have a great mobile app as well as a brilliant iPad app.
Note that Nationwide does give real time statements and has an excellent mobile app, as has been stated earlier on in this statement.
It's clear from the overwhelming majority of very positive comments in this one thread that Nationwide have done well with both their internet banking and mobile banking. I reckon I'd struggle to find that many positive comments about Barclays' internet banking in this whole forum (excluding those written by yourself).0 -

I think the point that Archi Bald was trying to make is that you decided to swap decent interest rates for the ability to check your account balance using an iPad. Whilst everyone is entitled to choose a bank for their own needs, I think I would prefer the bank that gave me more cash.0 -
I've just come over from the Coop, mainly due to their online banking and the difficulties it presents in managing money and Nationwide is a real breath of fresh air!
The biggest bugbear I have with Nationwide's online banking is the full statement/mini statement view. The order of transactions on the full statement is a nightmare to work with. Transactions are grouped into days in reverse chronological order but then within that day transactions are sorted by chronological order which makes following the statement online extremely difficult. The mini statement view doesn't suffer the same problem, I've complained to Nationwide about this as I believe it to be a bug.
As for the real time statements, my only complaint is that if I make a payment it doesn't show up on the statement, yet if I view the calendar I can see the next working day that the payment is there and the details for it. Why not just show this on the full statement view?
Another minor issue is that Nationwide don't display payment references which can make tracking payments where the reference contains some payment information impossible e.g. PayPal verification numbers or payments which have information about the payment as a reference.0
