So, thinking of moving to nationwide from smile. Most if not all my interaction will take place online so would welcome any feedback in nationwides internet banking system,
How do you find it to do normal transactions? Does it have secure messaging? Do faster payments work 24/7?
Cheers

One of the best online banking systems I have come across, though nothing is perfect and there are areas they could improve. Much more modern than Smile though. Yes, they have secure messaging and faster payments do normally work round the clock, at least on weekdays. Most weekends are also fine though sometimes they have maintenance for a few hours on a Sat or Sun.
Not sure what you mean by "How do you find it to do normal transactions?" but if you are thinking of SOs, DDs, Faster Payments - it's all a doddle. No contactless cards yet. Super introductory offer with the FlexDirect account, about 5% more interest than Smile are paying. Flexclusive products are sometimes offered to account holders and are usually relatively attractive.
I am told they also have a good mobile app though I am not using that myself.0 -
I moved to Nationwide at the beginning of the year, I find their online banking very slick and user friendly. Much better than Lloyd's and HSBC's who I've had previous bank accounts online with.
P.S. Yes the iOS app is good as well. You can view balances, transfer funds, pay people, etc.0 -
Sorry, yes, with normal transactions it was setting up standing orders, creating payments, cancelling direct debits, that kind of thing
Do they make you use the card reader device to complete transactions when logged in?
Love contactless but mainly use on the credit card for cash back so that won't be massive issue for me0 -
Yes you need a card reader for certain transactions. You can (but don't have to) use it for logging in, in which case you won't need it again for that session. Otherwise you must use it for payments to a new payee, or when you amend a payee (which is on of the areas they should improve - - just because I change the Payment Reference is no reason to re-approve). You might also be required to occasionaly use it for existing payees.
The card reader isn't personal to you/ your account, and is interchangeable with Natwest / RBS / Ulster bank readers (and probably some others, tough not HSBC and FD, or CB/YB).
No idea whether you need the card reader for the mobile app.0 -
You can log in using your memorable data rather than the card reader although you will sometimes have to use it when setting up or making payments.0

I've banked with nearly all the high street banks and Nationwide has one of the better internet banking websites.
It has all of the usual features, but also has extras like secure messaging, graphs, pre-selected offers, account closures (for savings) within internet banking, a reserve limit (or similar, I cannot remember what it's called now).
Barclays have a great internet banking as well, but they also have an amazing iPad and mobile app.
Nationwide's mobiel app is okay, does everything you want it to, but it's not as polished as Barclays app.0 -
Excellent self-service online banking. However, the time taken to respond to secure messaging means that in my opinion it is not fit for purpose. When Nationwide failed to meet its (overlong in my opinion) maximum target response time to one of my messages I submitted a secure message as a complaint. I never got a reply!0

I have never had a problem with the IB, but slow in Branches.
On the plus side it shows you the interest being paid on each account you have with them.

I find for me their internet banking is the least reliable in terms of actually being able to log in. Could be my set up but I am glad I don't use them for my main account. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Use a couple of banks and Nationwide's about average. The annoyance, like HSBC Business is the reliance on their security device.
I only really use it to bounce my £1,000 around between FlexDirect accounts but its frustrating every month having to use the card reader to do the same transfer each time.
The other annoyance is that if you authorise a payee on one account you have to do it again for your other 3 accounts even though they all appear under the one log in.0
