Oh and if mr know it all knew anything about fitness what so ever, then theyd know that its possible to look very fit from the outside and not be fit at all.
Slim doesn't = fit in every case, heavier doesn't always mean unfit
Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but a size 10 woman who stuffs herself with junk food and smokes 20 a day will be less fit than a size 14 woman who eats healthily and doesn't smoke.
And genetics play a part in the body shape people have as well and some people put on weight easily, others don't, that doesn't mean that people who can eat a poor diet and still don't put weight on are fit.
You sound like someone who is terrified of getting fat and is projecting all your insecurities onto other people, either that or you are just trolling.
But do yourself a favour, stop trying to derail a thread by someone who has been by their own admission struggling lately and was just beginning to feel better about herself.
Thanks as ever Paulineb!
It's funny really because New and Improved Me's posts are actually reinforcing my new found way of thinking. It is a perfect example of why I am not affected by what i think others think of me!0 -

Seriously, why should this thread turn into a fat bashing thread, !!!!!! and since when did a size 10 be something that people aspired to? If people are a natural size 10, fine, but some people aren't.
People are unique, why should people have to be a certain dress size just to fit in?
I know a lot of gym instructors, I teach fitness classes myself and the people I know with the most sense, say forget the scales, its how you feel after exercise that matters. The other ones are busy peddling meal replacement shakes just to make a quick buck.
Also, if people have a balanced diet most of the time, if people want to have chips, why shouldn't they? Anyone ever done or seen the body for life programme, even they say people should have a cheat day, yes dieting is about self control, but who the hell wants to sit and look at lettuce leaves all day long and never have a treat. My brother is a PT and I went out for dinner with him today, he had chips, he just doesn't sit and eat them every day of the week. But if someone did have a food addiction, Id get to know what was wrong first, before looking at their size and making snap judgements.
There are lots of reasons why people overeat, people might also overeat for comfort, for various reasons, if they have been through trauma, some people have addictions to food, sitting behind a keyboard referring to people as fatty might make some people feel better but its really not on.0 -
I understand what you are saying, but its just the way you are built some women have boobs others don't - you could have been a size 14 and still be flat chested and likewise be a size 8 and have more than a handful !!
Obesity costs our country ££££££££££ and its because of people not taking responsibility for their own health and "embracing their curves" that todays kids are the first generation who are expected to have a lower life expectancy than their parents !!!
Diets don't work - but healthy eating and burning more calories than you consume does -its not rocket science !!
Being slim doesn't make a person more attractive but then again neither does someone who has such little self regard for their own long term health that they think being obese is ok. It is a disease. Possibly one the obese person caused... yes.. but it still has a negative impact on health. It is not a good thing or ok.
You see I used to believe this but there is information out there that would indicate that the so called issues with obesity are not caused by obesity itself but the effects that yo yo dieting has had on an obese persons body.
Now, I am also not naive enough to think that the above information is 'fact' or that I am saying that it is ok to stuff yourself silly at every opportunity. What i do believe though is everyone is different and BMI is not a good indicator of health.
We all have different circumstances and unfortunately it is likely for a while (if not forever) that I won't be able to exercise. And if I hadn't been trying to conform to society's ideals when I was slim, I would not have ended up this big. Maybe bigger, due to having 2 more kids but not this big!0 -

But then again nobody is a "natural " size 18 either,
I'm a size 10 eat a balanced and varied diet.neither over indulgeing or denying myself,I run several times a week and I haven't been on a "diet" for over 15 years .It was the realisation that the only way to stay slim and healthy (for life) is to burn more calories than I consume,
I'm sure that If I stuffed my face with more calories than I need /burn I'd be a size 18 in no time at all,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The OP has made a choice and that's her prerogative, but lets not forget obesity kills and its no different to someone declaring that they smoke 20 a day or drink a bottle of vodka a night just because it " makes them happy" and should that really be celebrated ?0 -
Lol.....
NO....no self control.....I'm afraid....sorry...
I'm considering having a can of full fat Fanta now.....then maybe a bag of crisps....0 -

Does obesity kill and how, genuine question?
And who says I (or any larger persons) don't eat a varied and balanced diet. And yes, some people are (or should I say were) naturally a size 18. In parts of history it was more accepted to be large and curvaceous (Reubenesque). It is only very recently that it has become unnacceptable to be larger.0 -

If you read the OPs posts previously, she has several health conditions such as PCOS and other health issues that make weight loss very hard.
Which is why I don't think any poster (not you), should be coming on here using the word fatty.
When I was quite overweight earlier in the year, I sat myself down and basically said, I need to accept myself the way I am right now if Im ever going to get this weight off, meaning, if I don't lose the weight, I like myself the way I am. Something similar to what the OP said and two and a half stones later Im doing ok, but I don't have the health issues the OP does. But I put on weight easily and I don't find it easy to lose. Im also finding it tougher to lose weight in my 40s than I did even in my late 30s.
As I said before, injury and health can make it very tough for people to get weight off. We cant all go through life knowing we'll never have a health issue or get injured or ill and when someone who does have health problems posts, I think they should get support, rather than some idiot going on about giving people a pill and everyone would want to be size 10
As they said themselves, trying to rile people on here, quite sad, didn't even look as if they had read a single word the OP had to say.0 -
Sugar coat it all you want.....accept it all you want...
size 18/20 is FAT, Unhealthy and overweight.....and it WILL eventually cause you health issues.....If not already.....
When your young it's not too much of an issue but as you get older...It will be....
If u've accepted defeat that you are unable to lose weight....and you have accepted that your going to be this weight for the foseable future...then that's fine....its your decision and you will have to live with it...
My opinion....or even the 'Social' norms that 18/20 is obese......mean nothing...
be happy...life is too short.....not to be...:)0 -

Again, so YOU say. And the BMI chart.
In the run up to my diagnosis of Fibro, I have had many, many tests that confirm there is nothing else wrong with me apart from my PCOS which was incidentally diagnosed when I was 'normal'!
My Dad is the advert for 'good health' - hardly drinks, never smokes, walks EVERYWHERE, eats a well balanced diet and he got NHL. Although he survived this, it has left him with NO immune system.
Same with my FIL, prostate cancer that is a ticking time bomb. He was always normal weight, was a policeman so active all the time, gave up smoking years ago and hardly drinks.
So these healthy people have both ended up with cancer. And there are a lot of others in similar situations. Again, I am not advocating non stop bingeing or not moving where possible however, I honestly believe if it is gonna happen, it's gonna happen; padding or not!
Oh and I am not 'giving in', I am accepting that this is me and it is likely to stay that way. What do you suggest I do? Not accept it and continue to fight my own body living a miserable life and risking my mental health for fear of being a failure or not good enough? I don't think so!0 -

Slim is beautiful.
Thin is not. Thin, unless it's genetically the way you're made, means malnutrition.
I assume that's what you meant?0
