Just catching up..lovely to see so many posts and such positivity in the face of financial adversity
Hope DD1 manages to crack through the assessments and wonderful that she is going to start A levels somewhere where she will feel supported and appreciated
Keep writing those letters...yes and as you know I am with Piq....you need to complain about the advice to take out the loan...it was carp advice and it has massively affected your lives. Think of it as a 'fledgling fund' for your DDs if you have to... And that makes you feel less guilty
Sorry to hear you've been so ill shelski, get well soon

Same to you, one and all.
I'm currently in The British Museum trying to make use of my membership. I try and only see one room at a time otherwise I get 'cultured out'. Tonight's pick - when I arrived was The Lewis Chessmen. However, I've gotten lost trying to find the appropriate set of stairs, so I'm now sitting in the Members' Room on very comfy sofas, trying to decide if I'm going to pull out my knitting (sewing up, actually).
If I can find it, I'll post an account of someone else's encounter with a passenger leaving a train in an 'interesting' way. It had me in stitches when I first read it, as I could just visualise it happening. Hopefully, it's not something else lost due to leaving job.0 -
Found. It's under 'BBC Going Loco - Jon Yuill' in 2003. I'll have to add the full link on Monday.

"There are enough of us on the trains - so there are plenty of good stories.
In many of the stories I have come across in my years of commuting, alcohol inevitably plays its part.
A particular favourite as witnessed by myself goes as follows. Returning home one evening some years ago, in the days of slam door trains (I know, they're still in use), a city worker who was obviously suffering the effects of one too many pink gins, sat opposite and promptly fell asleep, snoring loudly.
The journey that evening was painfully slow, and we ground to a halt in the darkness. Feeling the train come to a stop, the man suddenly woke from his stupor and, before anyone could stop him, opened the door and leapt out, thinking it was his station.
There was a muffled cry as he landed with a thud on the track some four feet below him. Stifling giggles, the rest of the carriage helpfully watched as he clawed his way back up into the carriage, then doubled-up in hysterics as he went to the other side of the train and repeated the process!"0 -

My incident happened in the days of door slam trains as well
That story is hilarious, I can just imagine it ! The things that go on on the last train home Friday nights make your mind boggle !!
Thankfully I don't witness it much anymore ! Far too old, would much rather be tucked up on the sofa under a throw ! xLBM July 2011 - Finally took control Nov 2011 DFD Sometime in the distant future !

I was just about to log off then spotted you had posted.
We have claimed everything that we can I'm afraid. We are playing catch up with the tax bill after a non payment a few years ago for a large sum of money. We were unable to pay that years bill and have been playing catch up ever since. As fast as we finally get the previous years bill paid, the next one is due.
Cest La Vie, we are paying and THEY are more lenient than they used to be years ago , so I Cant grumble.Well actually I can ! Once Upon a Life they used to frighten me into paying our bills by credit card when we found ourselves in a similar situation , hence the Pinot National Debt !!
We will get there by hook or by crook, just in time for the next bill no doubt ! x
Much better than I usually am, even if I've paid no more money off my debt.
You have my sympathies in regard to the tax man.
I don't mean to seem intrusive but are you putting away money for your taxes from your business profits, so the same situation doesn't happen again?2018 totals:
