More good advice, as ever...so sorry it's so hard.

Give yourself a break over NY. Then get your battling head back on, don the armour and go fight. I do think that if there is a chance you could get some cash for the misselling claim you should try..what is it..that mans reputation ( he should have been insured I think?) or your house? Not a hard call, IMO.

Keep dropping in... And know what you mean re spending money. If it feels wrong then don't. The presents are not the thing

  • Thankyou everyone.

I do actually feel a little better today. You are right of course, its not about the presents. It never has been to be honest or where the girls are concerned. You are correct Piq, I have said before they dont ask for anything really, well rarely and DD2s request was a Space Hopper !!! Even at the ages they are now, they are happiest making Xmas Candy Canes, Reindeer Food , all the simple things. They have some lovely gifts under the tree and I know they will be thrilled ! The meltdown over presents was infact the age old "Keeping Up Appearances" scenario. It was spending money on other people when there are bills to be paid that I was / am struggling with. That makes me sound like a Xmas Humbug, Im really not. I love Xmas and I love giving presents.....but its just become a bit too much this year. I have said before, there are things I cant really write down, but there is alot of money elsewhere in the family, and I mean loads. That is where we will be spending Xmas. They will think nothing of spending £100 each at least on my girls. They are incredibly lucky as they are loved so much by them, but obviously we are unable to return gifts of that cost, so I rack my brains for something equally lovely on a smaller budget. I cant deal this year of comments being thrown across the dinner table by other members of the family ( not the ones with money hosting Xmas, they are fab) about how we are the "poor relations" by comparison. I have had this thrown at me for years and years. My Dad would always give me a knowing look as if to say " Ignore it love, I know you are happy with your family and all of this glitz and grandeur means nothing to you". He understood me. Other than Mr PG and the girls noone else does I dont think . Of course he isnt here this year to back me up and Im probably thinking too much into all of this. I need to give myself a big damn shake and get on with it. I have already heard rumours of comments about us and our financial situation being bandied around when it is really nothing to do with the person concerned. I have even caught that person having a sneaky peek at our mail when I have left the room and quietly returned without them realizing. The same person is always questioning us in relation to our business, the hours we work and why .........

Oh....... I could go on forever and ever and ever about the subject of money and noseiness in my family !! It appears we have no right to any privacy and lives should be up for family discussion.

Knowing we have these arrears and people on our case for money just made me feel sick. I need to dig out my angry head again and fight back. As Mrs B says, maybe that's one for the new year.

I seem to have a meltdown like this every Xmas. Certainly since this diary has been going. I must be boring you all to tears !! Sorry ! xxx

I really do need to build myself up to the whole misselling thing. Im not sure there is enough space in my fuzzy head right now for this one. I can barely string two words together.

I have though written back to the bank re the charges reclaim and told them to take another look. It was clearly the tea boy that called us and wrote the last letter xxx

    Good morning :)

Dont want to read and run, to be honest stuff the family, we all have different situations. My new OH his family have a lot of money and they seem to flash the cash around, I am stupidly poor at the moment and have bought a few things but to me and my family its not about the presents and the cash, but it seems there is, so it will be a different xmas day and if they look down on me then so be it but this is me, like it or lump it and I am not changing for anyone. Try and ignore the family if you can, you are above that, at the end of the day you have your priorities right with the family, stuff everyone else :D

  • I don't talk to one half of my family because of pettiness, nosiness and talking about us behind our backs. I'm also the poor relation now and it's all my fault apparently for not going to uni when told to and for falling pregnant at 19. Pah, whatever. I'm much happier since the fall out with them although I'm sad i've not seen my nan or grandad since. I hope you manage to get through xmas and you need to think of some witty one-liners to throw back at them. My DH is fab at thinking of these and no one dares to say anything to him now because he has become master of turning the comment around to make them seem the inadequate ones, I only wish I had his sarcastic talent ;)

P.s I also had a meltdown yesterday (seems I always have one this time of year too :o ) I got all the presents out to make sure each child had a similar sized pile and then cried because it all looked so pathetically small. But my kids like yours aren't spoilt and they appreciate everything so they won't be bothered. It's me who's bothered because I was so spoiled as a child :( So i've given myself a kick up the backside and feel better today.

You'll have to just imagine all your MSE friends sat across the table from you on the day saying to you "Ignore it love, I know you are happy with your family and all of this glitz and grandeur means nothing to you"

Big hugs, and breathe, and have a lovely Christmas with Mr PG and the girls :) xxx
