great idea about stewing the fruit for later - could I then freeze it? and with stewing do you just cook it as it is (obviously stone the plums) with a little sugar?

    sooooo many questions

  • Do you get a list of what the veg is going to be before you get it? If you do, why not sort out your menus for the week based on what you're getting. Suspect your long cabbage is a spring cabbage - great stir-fried with ginger + garlic.

Can I freeze plum crumble anyone? also only have utterly butterly at the moment in the fridge - is this ok in a crumble?

You can, but unless you're freezing leftovers, I'd just freeze the fruit and add the crumble topping later and cook fresh.
I also found a recipe on Zaar for Plum Butter which was a Martha Stewart Recipe, It says it is freezable for 6 mths and says it is nice on toast but I don't really understand what all these fruit butters are for that US sites talk about

In this context a butter is a type of jam or preserve.

Lil_me, thanks for posting those links, clicked the first one and found 4 places that deliver boxes to me! I'm in London so was having difficultly finding somewhere. Had a delivery through Abel & Cole but wanted to try a few different ones, thanks again :D

  • If in doubt prepare and freeze the veg for use later (cut carrots into strips etc etc)! I do that with the stuff in my box. Then pull it out and cook it when i need (Im not much one for planning, rather opening the freezer and making something!)

Also if you dont know what to do with it (or dont like it!) my other tip is blitz it and add it to dishes such as bolognaise and savoury mince. You dont taste it but use it and get all the goodness!

if you google vegetable box recipes, there are a lot of sites there, also the boxing clever cookbook looks good
  • Hi had a lovely big box of fruit and veg delivered today. Not being one that is over adventurous with veg normally there are a few items i dont recognise and not sure how to cook/prepare.

1 - orange fruits (i think). shiny skin. Similar to size of a peach but not as round. Small Tight green leaves at top.

2 - green/yellow skin, a bit like a leopard print with indentation from top to bottom about every 1 - 2 cm.

3 - bag of leaves mixture of red and green stalks. stalks quite thick and veins very prominent in leaves.

    Thanks
