How do i get a veggie box? Would love to have a bash with some new veggies, also how much do they usually cost?
Thanks
Feisty!
Hi there,
Depends where you live, I live just outside London so had to search a bit before I found one. I used Abel and Cole, I thought instead of trying something small I'd go the whole hog and buy the biggest box availableI got the Family Box which is for 4-5 people for a week, it cost £22.
There are loads of other boxes available, either fruit or veg on their own or a mixture. I think you can also order things seperately, plus they do meat and dairy etc. They said they would deliver today and the box was sat on my doorstep at 7am so who knows what time they delivered, just thankful they didn't knock

There are loads of other places around the country though, look at the link that Plum Pie mentioned, or just google veg or meat boxes and your area, maybe that will throw up something.
Thanks for the suggestions, I think I might give the moussaka a go, never done one before  plus the omlette with the courgette sounds lovely!
Thanks againDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
I use www.rivernene.co.uk for my veg.
For the OP, ramiro peppers are sweet. SO use them like you'd use bell peppers.
Runner beans, just cut them into 1" peices, and steam them!0 -
actually didnt notice the ramimo pepper the first time around. I found these have few membranes and seeds. they would be ideal to stuff though im not sure how easily you could balance it, will depend on the shape!
When I did stuffed peppers before I used rice, onion, garlic, small amount of mince, peas and topped with cheese. Very yummy!0 -

I second what boo said about the ratatooie or however you spell it. How about serving a salad with a dish such as lasagne using the other bits.
Advice on the beans is done.
I find with my veg box if i dont know what to do with it i blitz it and bung it in a savoury mince dish whilst cooking, that way i dont taste it (if im not a fan) or waste it and get all the goodness.

The best thing about that Rivernene website is that you can search for vegetable you want to use, and it comes up with all the recipes that use it.
I've had some funky veggies in my box, ones I've never even seen before, but that website always sorts me out :-)Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Received my first ever fruit and veg box today
So excited, but have no idea what to do with them
We do like our veggies but are very boring, have the same old thing ie broc n cauli with our roast etc. etc. Want to try some new things and encourage the kids to eat more veggies so decided to get the box....this is where I need your help!
This is what is in my box, can anyone give me some pointers on what's the best thing to use them for, we do eat meat btw:
Aubergine
Carrots
Cherry Toms
Courgettes
Green Battavia Lettuce
Milva Potatoes
Ramiro Pepper (is this spicy or sweet?)
Runner Beans (how do you cook these?)
Short Cucumber
White Onions
also got some lovely fruit:
Fairtrade Bananas
Guyot Pears
Melon
Peaches
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!
Any help appreciated
Hi that veg box sounds great! I have been looking at different sites, which company did you use and do you mind me asking how much the veg box was? As you seem to have quite a lot in there!Northern bird on the loose!
