Well I am now alternating between Organic Country Stores and Abel and Cole until I find the perfect box for us. Just got my Abel and Cole organic box, I went for the small mixed box for £10 and got:
A small box of Alfalfa
4 Fairtrade Bananas
4 Carrots
8 Cosmos potatoes
3 courgettes
4 Elstar/Charles Ross apples
5 white onions
3 Williams Pears
Also a box of 6 organic eggs for £1.40
The fruit is in excellent condition and a more generous quantity is supplied, with the Organic country store I was only getting 2 apples, 2 pears, 2 bananas! and not in very good condition! Wish there was more veg though although what there is looks good. Might have to upgrade to the next box. wonder what Organic Country Stores will be like next week?

I've only just come back to thtis thread and it's really interesting reading. The comparison between the two suppliers made by catznine was really surprising.
Cat, if you do upgrade to the bigger box please let us know what the difference is.0 -

Just got my first delivery from Riverford - very exciting! I now own vegetables I don't even understand!!
Anyone got any suggestions for swiss chard and / or kabacha squash??0 -
I get a medium box of veg from Holsworthy Organics (north Devon) delivered weekly for about 4 years now. The majority of their produce is home grown, with as many things as possible sourced locally when they can't grow it themselves. It costs £8.50 and today I got:
1.2kg potatoes
1/2 a large butternut squash (squash and lentil soup)
1/2 a medium purple kohlrabi (grated in salad)
big bag of rainbow chard (used like spinach with lentils in lasagne maybe)
500g carrots
4 small beetroots (grated raw in salad with carrots)
large pointed cabbage (blimey, still got half left from last week!)
big bunch flat leaf parsley
5 (400g) onions
1 japanese radish (I think) - not sure what to do with this yet
I use "Stay Fresh Longer" bags from Lakeland to keep veg in the fridge which are magic, no more floppy carrots! Bit pricey, but get the biggest ones and they are really worth it.something missing0 -

They have recipe suggestions on their web site, I have only tried one of them which was for marrow and it was lovely.0 -
Flights Organics today:
2 sweetcorns
one very large cabbage (too big to fit in the fridge lol)
one cauli
6 satsuma's
6 large apples
bunch of seeded black grapes
6 medium sized bananas
Large lettuce
7 large carrots
2.5lbs of potatoes
Quality is excellent, as always.:hello:0 -

Hi
Swiss Chard, treat as spinach (chop, steam or sautee)
Kabocha is a lovely squash, cut in slices, take seeds out, toss lightly in oil and bake until soft - it is delicious just like this and it is the simplest way to cook it. Soetimes the skin is soft enough to be eaten (cooked) so you don't even need to peel it.
Enjoy!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
