I'm currently looking at holidays for Jan for the family, would love to goto sharm, but my conscious won't allow it. This military dictatorship overthrew the first democratically elected leader after decades of dictatorship. It then set about gunning down in cold bl**d unarmed protestors while they prayed! - you only have to look at the behaviour of the two sides to see who is wrong.

The behaviour of a country's government wouldn't preclude me from visiting that country - China was one of the most memorable trips I've ever made.

However, the heightened risk of being killed by a terrorist would.

Tourists have been targetted in Egypt before and they will be again.

I suppose it all depend on how much you value your life over a cheap holiday.

Tom, do you have such strong views on other countries that terrosrists have targetted in the past such as Tunisia and the US or just Egypt?
Do you stay away from London too?
Maybe some day they will strike again but if you stay away from somewhere because of a very very slim chance that you would be in the wrong place at the wrong time then you seriously wouldn't even leave your house.
    Enjoy your pina coladas !
Oh i shall, and just for the record my holiday was not cheap but you pay for quality and that i will be getting.

I tend to follow Foreign Office advice which is based on very good intelligence plus my own judgement.
When that advice specifically warns of avoiding large areas of a country which is itself surrounded by some fairly dangerous countries I listen to it.
As for the Red Sea resorts you take your chances - but the likelihood of becoming a victim of a terrorist attack is far greater than the UK or the USA.
Western tourists are a very tempting target and really quite easy to get at.

this is really good news as we can go to Egypt at will in the full knowledge that we won't bump into you....

Interested in Egypt too, Sharm possibly Namma Bay (spelling?). Can anyone recommend a good 5* resort for all inclusive for a couple in their mid 30's?

1 request, preferably a hotel/complex with very few Russians, as I've seen them on 'holiday' in several countries and it embarrasses me to be the same species as them

    Cheers
  • I have booked the Rixos at Sharm for March with my wife. It seems to tick all the boxes.

Failing that I have heard Thomsons Sensatori is very good.

With an attitude like that I doubt you bump into anyone.
    Certainly not more than once.

I've booked to go to the Sensatori for next year. My parents have been and highly recommended it!

I'm of a view if your time is up, it's up! Doesn't stop me from doing anything plus I work with 4 & 5 year olds so everyday is a risk lol
