Google were effectively underwriting a 'posturing' exercise, if they just wanted the patents they could have just pulled the plug on Motorola and kept them. Google are not really interested in hardware, Motorola's patents are just an excuse, a distraction.
That is all just hearsay.
Look at the actual evidence. Google called it wrong on Motorola's patents. Google thought they had a good set of patents acquired via Motorola Mobility. When the Motorola went to court, they actually lost a lot of the cases. Their patents weren't watertight. So Motorola got dumped.
You conspiracy theory does not even make sense. Google bought the biggest losers in the smart phone market to scare Samsung? A bit far fetched. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have an Ovivo SIM in mine, set it to 3G only in the Service Menu and happy days. Not bad for £99 (Tesco) and £2 eBay unlock code and £0/month. This is MSE after all

Can anybody help with this.
I have a Motorola Moto G (on the ovivo network) and recently the gmail email notification will only work on wi-fi.
I have googled and checked all my settings etc but still can't get to the bottom of it.
It's getting as annoying as the pitiful data speeds.0 -
There is no setting for 'only alert on wifi'
I'll assume you're on KitKat by now, if you drag the notification bar down with two fingers (while on mobile data only), is the signal indicator in the tile orange?0 -

You (or I) will never know the truth so it's actually ALL hearsay, isn't it? But look at the phones Motorola were producing BEFORE being bought by Google and then look at the Moto G. Notice any glaring difference/s?0 -

Yes Android 4.4.2. I'm trying to remember if it did stop working at the same time I downloaded the update a few weeks ago.
I have tried deleting the google account and re-installing but no joy. Works fine in wi-fi but I have to manually refresh Gmail when using mobile data.
Yes signal bars and 'G' are orange on the middle tile. Thanks for the 2 finger tip by the way :beer:0 -
Sorted after trying another google:
Go to setting, connections, data usage, then scroll down to google services and select it. Then make sure that "restrict background data" isn't selected. Somehow mine was selected so I unclicked it and VOILA push notifications started coming thru!! Hope this helps.0 -

What I am saying is not hearsay. Google released a statement at the time (still on its website). They stated they had acquired Motorola for two reason:
1) To acquire the Motorola Mobility patents to protect android OS
2) To continue the supply of cheap phones in the android market
Google did not say that they were acquiring Motorola as it's phone business. It said it was protecting the budget market by acquiring it, i.e. Motorola continues as it is. There is nothing unique to the Moto G that Motorola had not done before. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It seems quite a few people are having problems with the KitKat upgrade

I have not had these problems, but there is a bug in the SMS messaging software that causes many 3rd party SMS apps to sporadically record 2 copies of sent messages in the sent box - although at least it only sends one.
Its seems its Google's mess up, if you were a conspiracy theorist you might think they were trying to encourage people to use their Hang (me) Out (to dry) nonsense or stick with the built in rubbish one.0
