Yes it's safe to unlock after setting up, it doesn't affect what you've done to it.

As for apps, when I handed over my dads one, he signed in and it started downloading them automatically (as it should do) just before the Motorola Migrate process was presented.

We started the migrate process while that was happening, and it caused the app downloads to stop, so don't do MM until they're finished :rotfl:

Thanks for the info. I have set it up and it showed all my apps, but I still had to install them which I've just done. I found the quickest way was to do it online.

I haven't found where Settings are yet :o so off to read the instructions.

Does anyone know what type of sim the installed Tesco one is, PAYG or pay monthly? There is no information in the box and I can't remember it saying on the Tesco website. I forgot I still had the Tesco sim in it and sent a text, then it gave me a balance of 2p. Oops. I certainly haven't signed up for pay monthly, but if it was PAYG I would have expected a decreasing balance if any.

It's PAYG and you can find settings in the app drawer, or by dragging the notification shade down with two fingers and tapping settings.

Thanks. I found out it was PAYG when I paired it with the Bluetooth in the car and tried to make a test call. Strange how it showed a balance and let me send that text.. It is also saying I have used 189KB when I've had it on wifi since I set it up.

I have a few questions and will no doubt have more.

Is anyone using it with Ovivo and is the data any more reliable with this phone? I still have my Ovivo sim in my Huawei G300 and am increasingly finding that I can't get a connection and am thinking of changing to the 3 network. I have a sim cutter, but am holding off cutting the Ovivo sim as I could use it in another phone if it would be just as bad in this one.

The Moto G updated as soon as I set it up and I'm now on 4.4.22 according to one screen I saw and 4.4.2 in Settings. I take it that is KitKat?

I would also like opinions on whether I should activate Protect Phone, Motorola Device ID and Encrypt Phone. I have set up a phone lock, but haven't set up the sim lock yet as it only gives you one attempt before requiring a PUK Code to unlock it, which I do have but might not have on me if I was out and about.

ETA - I have been using Prey Project to protect or locate my phones up till now.

4.4.2 is indeed KitKat (the newest version to boot). If you tap on 4.4.2 a few times you should get a large K on the screen, hold your finger on that and a modified KitKat logo will appear.

I definitely wouldn't encrypt the phone, people have managed to lock themselves out of all their stuff in the past with that (their own fault, granted).

Went in to my local Tesco Extra where I had my 16gb Moto G sent.
Appeared item had gone missing after it had been signed for in
    store:(

Luckily, the phone store had them in stock, so accepted full refund from Tesco Direct, 5 pound extra for inconvenience.
Have just unlocked it with 1.99 code from Codex on e bay, which I can recommend.
Only got it on 321 PAYG from Three for the moment. Would upgrade in a flash when their 15 pound unlimited deal includes Germany, where I work. Cracking little phone, a real upgrade from my little Galaxy Ace;)

The sim free 16GB version seems to be as rare as hens teeth at the moment. I fruitlessly tried two Tesco stores before deciding just to pay the extra tenner and get one from Amazon.

Unfortunately, they too are now out of stock. :(

Probably been mentioned above so apologies but, if I were to unlock my Moto G, does this invalidate the Tesco warranty?

Giffgaff advise that unlocking a phone will almost certainly invalidate the warranty.

That's why I want a genuine sim free one.

Mine was out of stock when I ordered it from Amazon a while back but it came in earlier than they said. Phones4u seem to have 16GB Sim free at the same price.

Edit + £5.05 cashback from Topcashback on a sim free currently so cheaper
European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.

Even if this really WAS the case (and it certainly won't be from Motorola's POV by the way as the SIM unlock is an official one generated by them) you are effectively paying £20 to 'insure' a £130 phone for a year. Crazy (even if the phone's warranty was invalidated which it isn't so double crazy!). Tesco staff would probably tell you that your warranty with them was invalidated simply because they want you to use Trsco mobile's service (the reason they are selling the phone cheaply).
