Sounds like an ideal location for a holiday cottage.
I really like the West Country. We've stayed in North Devon a couple of times, and did venture along as far as minehead.
It'll also be good opportunity to see your uncle, and maybe have a talk about old timesEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I agree Goldie! There's plenty to do in the area, plus - hopefully - beach playtime too.
Not sure my uncle + I will get to talk as he is very, very near the end and may not even be able to open his eyes. My sister and mum are seeing him tomorrow, which will be tough for them both. I'll know more then if I need to dash down.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
We have been swimming - well, dd has, I just had to bob about in the little pool with her. She's become much more confident and was going up and down with her armbands and a noodle. At the end she tried it just with armbands and managed it. She is so proud of herself! And because it was a scheduled spend for yesterday, today is still an NSD.... Is that cheating? It feels like it is! Anyway, I may do the food shop later and spend anyway, so it may be a moot point.
Got ZWOW #39 done: 3x
- 50 side hop (did high knees again)
- 10 spider (push up plank, straight leg under to opp hand = 20)
- 10 each reverse lunge with hop up
- 10 each split squat with 5k DB thruster
= 7m43
Also did jumping jiggle free: 30 jump lunge, 20 press up, 25 sit up. Then 8 mins of jogging on the spot.
All exercise was done before going to the pool, so may be that is why I'm pooped!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Not much more going on in the apple household. Dd and I both ate lunch as soon as we got back from the pool, then played 'doodles'. One draws a quick scribble and the other has to make it into a picture. Great fun! She likes to make it super hard for me...
We also did a little work on the castle, which now has a ginormous swimming pool. I got the whole kitchen ceiling painted while dd worked on the outside of the pool. So, some has had 2 coats and the rest will need 1 more soon.
3 little birdies can now join the 2 big birdies. All sewn up and winged and eyed. My favourite ones so far. So the craft total is going well. I've beaten my original 100 items by the end of August :T. But I still want to reach this month's target... I may bite the bullet and make some more birdies as I like them so much now I've found good eyes for them.
Dd is too tired to sleep so is keeping herself awake and upset. I'm sitting in her room as company, poor mite.
Grotty weather is forecast for tomorrow, so I plan to:
- iron
- pay for dd's milk
- make choc chip biscuits
- do jumping jiggle free
- contact big sis
- possibly mow if the rain comes later rather than earlier (forgot to do this today)
- paint hallway one more coat of white
- cut out several birdies and pin ready for sewing (4 big + 3 small would make 3 birdie families of four)
- play loads with dd
- washing - got a bag of single sheets off freegle, so will choose those to keep and give the others away, and wash the keepers.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

With that in mind, in the next 12 days I'll aim to
- paint the hall properly, even if only white.
- paint the kitchen ceiling, 2 coats all over
- craft zillions of items.... OK, so maybe 30? Gulp.
- get dd's room sorted, with 2 biggish pieces of furniture in, to store all her books and clothes, minimum. Some games/toys too would be handy...
- do jumping jiggle free daily
- do 7 ZWOWs - gulp again!
...
- hall not yet done, and today's rain will postpone it
- kitchen ceiling 3/4 done
- crafting is going well
- dd's room has big furniture in there, so as done as it will be for now
- jumping jiggle free is continuing
- ZWOWs are happening on alternate days
Overall, progress is progressing well!
Must get up and do jiggle free before dd emerges, and get a wash on. Or maybe just stick it outside and the rain can do it for me!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Oh me, oh my. A courtesy call from the bank as they now must contact people who are nearing the end of their mortgage term, to check they are ok to pay it off. I thought we had 9 years left, but now know we have 4 years and 9 or 10 months. Oopsie!
A discussion with dh is required, with specific 'action points' to pay it off!
I have a few ideas in my head, none of them earth-shattering in their money-making ability, but every little we find means less interest and more capital being paid.
In more mundane matters, dd + friend have spent ages happily decorating false nails. And still only managed 1 each! They'll be back on it after lunch.
Washing is drying outside, and I've given 2 fitted sheets to lovely neighbour - I got a bagful from a freecycler yesterday - too many for just 1 single bed!
There was also a valance sheet thing in there, which I shall use to trial making small bags. My sister made me one years ago - small blue check with a red heart button sewn on. Simple idea upgraded by a bead! The sheet is cream-coloured, so I may stitch a butterfly or heart on the bags... However, birdies need doing first...NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
A discussion has been had, paperwork has been looked at, and it turns out that yes, there are 5 years left - on the 2nd mortgage that has £0 owing on it. Daft banky people!
And the 'usual' mortgage DOES have 9 years to run.
Phew.
In other news, all cut out birdies are sewn but not turned the right way out yet. And I've tried making a small tote bag. Dd + her friend like it, so I guess it was a success!
And my sister texted to say that she and mum had visited uncle and he'd come downstairs to lunch with them yesterday. They were going back for tea today. My auntie reckons he'll be ok for when we are on holiday, so I don't anticipate a sudden need to go down before.
No painting today, but I did mow the front and back (around the egde of the paddling pool!). Dd played outside for hours, which is what the summer hols should be all about. I also demolished the ironing pile, and made choc chip biscuits.
Tomorrow is dd's 6-monthly check up at the hospital - at least it's just one bus ride away and I'll take packed lunches, as the appointment is at 11.30. I shall endeavour not to spend, as on Friday we are meeting up with a friend in a coffee shop and that will most certainly involve parting with dosh!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
ZWOW #34 Beg for it to end - completed in 9m48. Using 5k DB, 3x:
-20 DB squat jump (added a touchdown)
- 20 DB bent over row
- 20 DB walking lunge
- 20 DB plank pull
And then I did jumping jiggle free: 25 jump lunge, 15 pressup and 30 sit up.
Ooph!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Dd's blood test and consultant visit went well. She enjoyed the bus journeys and was proud of herself for 'not kicking, screaming or howling' during the blood letting procedure!
She's since had fun playing out the front with various kiddies. And I've not particularly done much! I have turned all the birdies and their wings the right way round and stuffed them, but that is all.
Food-wise it has been a good'un. Tho the scales are so fickle at the mo, I shall probably measure myself tomorow morning as an interim.
Maybe tomorrow will be more productive, maybe not!
- jumping jiggle free
- meet friend for coffee at 10
- paint kitchen ceiling (before going out?)
- sew up birdies and add wings and eyes
- make another bag or two...
- do top-up shop in area where the coffee shop is
- make soupNST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Jumping jiggle free is jumped.
Rest of kitchen ceiling is painted - so all finished - yay!
All birdie bodies are sewn up, plus 1 even has a wing! Did this with a good cup of coffee and Zuzka short clips playing - very multitasking and interesting!
And dd is up, dressed, and breakfasting, so we should be ready to depart soon. Lovely dh has left us the car to use. So whilst out we can get the top-up shop done. I did consider a trip to the tip and dropping off another bag at the Sally Army, but I reckon that might be pushing dd's goodwill a tad too far....
So just soup, wings end eyes, and bags left to do. And pay for dd's milk. And check banking .... And get a haircut... Oh dear, time to stop and get ready myself to go out.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0
