Normally you make the top first, you can join the patchworks together in lots of ways, the ones I have done have either been in strips then join the strips together, or join say 9 squares together into a bigger square called a panel, then make up enough panels to fit across the "bed" or whatever, then join them into a big strip, then repeat with enough strips to go down the length of the bed, then join them all together.

For the back I usually just use a plain or patterned piece of fabric. I have joined two or three pieces together for the back before to use up pieces that I had around the place, plus if its a larger size quilt you might not be able to get the right width for the quilt in one whole piece. Also it can look nice having something a bit "different" on the back to make it more interesting.

    Thank you. :)

    Hi all,
Great to see so much new activity since yesterday - im sure you are all in cahoots to put me to shame :)

Emslovesmickey - congratulations on winning. Bet you can't wait to get your prize - stash for free is always the best :) also love the card ! What a bargain set! I've never looked In tx maxx before for craft goodies but I might just have to once I've completed my target :)

Florenceem - well done on the makes. They look amazing. You are so much more organised than me. My kids also have book day tomorrow but luckily my girl is being lily from lily alone who wears normal clothes & my little lad just needs a red tshirt & blue trousers to be will solvit :)

Loopychris - you are a legend - you should feel very proud with how much you have achieved in such a short space of time :). Hope the wallpaper stripping went well :)

Greentiger - omg I love tge panel - its absolutely gorgeous :) I think you are being too critical as it looks amazing to me :)

Craftyc - brilliant work on making so many more things and extra Brownie points from me for making things for charity & destashing to a friend. Keep up the excellent work :) I really must try using my cricut to cut fabric. Do you just put something like bondaweb on the back of the fabric before cutting?

Rufusdog52 - I have loads of days like that - so many good intentions but just not enough hours in the day :) I too am intrigued by the shoes. Please post a picture when completed so that I can droo. Also well done on the leggings and tights :)

Susan42 - good luck for the quilt. Its got me thinking about making one from all the old clothes I have kept after being outgrown by my kids :) the decoupage letters and cards are super duper :)

Mooloo - congratulations on getting the order and more of my Brownie points to you for recycling :) you are most definitely allowed to buy the required materials :)

    Hi everyone,

Susan42 my friend took photos for sewing group Facebook page but I don't know how to get it onto here. If I copy the photo it won't let me paste it on. Is there an easy way to get it on?

Fabric with allsorts very cheap on oh sew crafty and p and p very cheap too.

I buy thermabond ultra off amazon. This is the high tack adhesive backing that you iron onto your fabric. This will cut by hand or die cutting machine. It is heavy duty stabiliser, there is a lighter one but I have not tried it ( it is sewable). You then just remove backing paper and iron onto the fabric of the item that you want to put the applique on.

If you google cutting fabric on cricut or silhouette you will find loads of videos on it. I loved cutting out ice skaters to make tops for dd that cost a fortune online... A warning though it becomes addictive! :)

I ended up putting her name on too and made some as birthday presents for skating friends. If you cut letters then cut out shadow and bond together they look fantastic cc

    Hello all!
I've read lots of bits of this thread and after looking at the amount of craft stuff I currently have, I thought I should join! I am trying to make 50 cards before I buy any new bits. I also do sewing, but don't have a massive stash and generally make specific items so have to buy material for it. Maybe, that will be next years aim :)

Hello and welcome :) im glad you've joined us on the ride :) its great to have you onboard :D

Good luck with the card making and well done for starting already - 4 is a great starter :)

Dont forget to keep us all posted :)

Ooops forgot to mention in my last post that I have finished another project life page and also finally completed my first inspiration book from the magazine cuttings :) it took ages but it is already inspiring me so hopefully will be worth it. If nothing else it takes up much less room than the 50 or so magazine's that got cut up :)

Ive still got loads of cuttings left though so think I will be making a few more over the next few months - especially as I came across about another 40 magazine's in the shed im clearing today :)

Got a touch of RSI from making blooming dreadlocks. Had to use pipe cleaners and all the twisting has hurt my arm.
DD is coming here in the morning so I can attach dreadlocks and crown - hope I can still move my arm. Photos if possible.

Goodness, this thread has grown... so many new members, welcome to you all if I haven't said it already.

I have managed to destash my peel off stickers today by 1 sheet: they all said Thank You, which I put onto the wedding thank you cards. there were a few flowery bits left on it, so I transferred them to another half used sheet... so I can dispose of 1 empty sheet! A mere drop in the ocean, but one less to store! Think I'll count it as one item though...

Got the day to myself tomorrow as it's hubby's going out day (he's retired so every Thursday goes out with a friend and I'm left to play by myself!). So I'm going to try and get some sewing done and get a couple more things off my list.

rufusdog, I'm curious about the shoes - looking forward to a picture of them. I watched the Great British Sewing Bee today. They had to make leggings and it made me think of you - no saggy bottoms, I hope.

tattycath, you'll have fun making a quilt. Just to add to the others' answers re wadding, if I'm making a baby playmat, or something similar that is likely to be washed frequently, I use polyester wadding -4oz or 6oz weight is best. I used to buy this off the roll, but I find it much cheaper (because I make quite a few) to get a bag of wadding for a king size quilt from John Lewis. I then machine quilt through all the layers before I bind it. If I make a quilt for snuggling like the memory quilt, I don't use wadding at all but back it with fleece fabric. In that case I either quilt as above or put a couple of stitches through both layers at every patch corner. It's tedious, but it hardly shows.

mooloo - well done on getting that apron order.

I don't have a target in mind, just to use as much as possible! So far this year I have made 8 Christmas cards, a birthday card and a Mother's Day card. I have crocheted some more of the blanket I started when I was pregnant with my daughter, (she was two on New Year's Eve) and have done a lot of her birth sampler. Also one page of her first year scrapbook. So much to do, so little time!

Two questions too, how do you make Notelets? Also, what is decoupage? As a card maker the only decoupage I know about is building up layers of the same picture to add dimension, so what is all this about decoupaging letters and shoes? What am I missing?
