I don't mean that to sound rude but it's making me laugh that people are getting het up about spending money to make sure they get their vouchers - it's not a freebie if you're buying something for the sake of it
No-one is getting het up. We are all entitled to discuss the scheme without coming across as het up.
No-one MSE is going to spend £5.85 on a hot chocolate and carrot cake :rotfl:
And no-one is advocating spending money unnecessarily. I really appreciate the coffee and cake vouchers and they're worth £70.20 to me annually. We all have to buy bits like birthdays cards, gifts, kitchen stuff, and I'm happy to spend x amount on that sort of thing in JL to make me feel more confident that I'll keep getting the vouchers. It'll make me feel less greedy too :rotfl:
At least we've given you a laugh this weekend0 -

Never heard of that happening before.0 -

I thought the Victorian Sponge was cut into smaller slices this time. The first time I had it, it was huge.
I might be wrong, but I think the cake was cut in 8 before. This time I think it was cut into 12. I might be wrong or it might have been a bigger cake, but it did cross my mind and I figured they are trying to save some money as they are losing so much with the freebies.0 -

So you appear to have just argued against the point of the whole exercise there.
If £5.85 for coffee and cake is 'too expensive', then the vouchers aren't worth £70 a year to you, they are worth whatever you think coffee and cake is worth?
As I've yet to find a mass produced coffee shop cake that is anywhere near as nice as home made, I would say it is worth very little to me. Bought cake is almost always a disappointment.
Birthday cards are probably much cheaper at Card Factory and gifts and kitchen equipment will be cheaper at supermarkets, ikea and wilkinsons.
So therefore, while coffee and cake at John Lewis might be a bit of a 'nice treat' all this messing about with vouchers seems to be a bit of a pointless exercise to me and a bit cheeky too.
John Lewis aren't going to carry on giving freebies like this for ever to people who buy the odd birthday card.0 -

Haven't noticed a differance in portion size in my John Lewis but I do think that will probably be the first thing to change if they haven't already done so.
That would make more sense than just pulling the promo - it is fetching extra potential trade through their doors even if some people don't spend much. People tell their family & friends who may also make purchases in their stores too.
I did notice on the vouchers I've received this week it states 'regular' hot drink - correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the other vouchers said 'any' hot drink - I've had the luxury hot chocolate the last couple of times which I thought was large.
It will be reviewed I'm sure as Waitrose stopped giving the free biscuit to people who got the free drink using the My Waitrose card. They also upped the amount you had to spend to get the free newspaper.0 -

I will be checking cake slice size next time I am in John Lewis :cool:0 -
How do they know who is and isn't using their vouchers as there is no idenitifer on them? I think you should be able to scan your card for coffee shop purchase as we have often bought other caf! items whilst there! No buying toiletries challenge - possibly for most of 2011,2012,2013,2014,2015!
£1 in sealed pot for each UU (2011 135/500:D) 2012 have UU 130/400 (never realised I had a mini chemist under my bed!!!) :rotfl:2013 UU 156/350. 2014 UU 197/250 2015 UU 16/100

post #158 also suggests that it would enable them to see that other items are purchased in the cafe by those with vouchers if they did accept the card. Perhaps they are too busy!
However I think there is an identifer/unique number on the reverse of the vouchers and that they are recording that. I seem to recall receiving an email from them about the vouchers within a couple of days of using the very first one.0
