Some major shoulder-chippage on this one0

The point of this site isn't for everyone to live as frugally as humanly possible and to end their lives with hundreds of thousands stuffed in their mattress.
It's to help you spend your money cleverly by getting the things you want as cheaply as possible, whether what you want is a Tata Nano or a Lamborghini Veneno (though there's probably not many discount codes around for those).0 -
On threads here, people highlight the expense of bits for their cars, maintenance, insurance etc etc. And the cars they own – BMWs, Mercs and so
So this web site is about saving money. Surely a very simple way is not to waste money on expensive cars. After all no one NEEDS a BMW or an Audio, Merc, Volvo and so on. The foolish may allow their vanity to cloud their judgement and they succumb to the desire to express their lack of meritorious personal traits through their car – after all, surely someone who feels the need to express their personality through buying what some perceive as prestige material goods, or statements of wealth, is not a worthy MSEer.
Can anyone demonstrate that for each pound spent, such cars return a better investment than cars half or even a quarter of their price, or are they purely for moral vacuums – after all surely they could by a cheaper car that does the primary role of move them from A to B and do some wider good by giving the rest to charity, rather than sitting in lane 3 tailgating more reasonable people.
This site is about getting the best value when buying, not about buying the cheapest.
If someone wants to buy a bmw / merc / new car / old car / diesel / petrol then thats their perrogative and with the aid of this site and these forums they can help ensure they get the best deals available.

Are you really Citizen Smith? Go on, it is you isn't it. Have a good old rant about nothing in particular, while not understanding that cars you slag off will still be in service while cheapo white goods will be getting recycled as bean cans. I do wish I could lay my hands on one of those "Audio"s though.0

Is someone a Dacia dealer?
Windows. Oh yes of course you can have windows item 3 and 4 on the options list right after an engine and gearbox.
I read something yesterday about the new Dacia estate. Slightly bigger thana focus estate. With the choice of a 73bhp 1.2 litre petrol engine. A 900cc 3 cylinder diesel with 88bhp. Or the biggest and most powerful engine a 1.5 diesel with 88bhp.
With a max tow weight of 810kg.. Thats pathetic.. But because its cheap must we all rush out and buy one?
I think everyone should buy a Mondeo instead.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I ran a BMW for many years, very cost-efficiently - Got it at two years old and kept it for another twenty.
Straightforward to maintain and much of the work I could do myself with a basic toolkit, a good choice of reasonably inexpensive parts from specialist suppliers - many from exactly the same manufacturers as OEM and a car of character that still turned heads years later. None of the other cars I had in the interim (mainly 4WDs for work, so they did get hammered) were as straightforward or kept their finish anything like as well.
If I had my way, I'd still have it now if some toerag hadn't stolen and set fire to it! :mad:0 -

I agree, buy a Jaguar instead.0 -
al these car brands produce both low end and high end cars. Except volvo which is in a different league (price high for safety rather than luxury).
A bmw 3 series, audi a4, mercedes c class are all affordable and aren't hugely more expensive than a mondeo.0
