Ive asked the local volunteering agencies and places that usually need volunteers are apparently full.

I just feel bad I won't see a single person from the 24th to the 2nd until I return to work and have to lie that I had an amazing christmas and new year when its just me

Do you want to have friends and a social life? Its ok if you don't want that, you don't need to lie, its nothing to be ashamed of.

If you do want those things though, maybe you could use this time off work as a chance to start making some changes and meeting new people?

What happened with your friend who used to visit? Is that bridge definitely burned for good?
  • I would suggest volunteering aswell, if the idea of an old folks home doesn't appeal I'm sure there as animal rescue centres who would welcome help over Christmas
  • Simonsays , that was your first post and you say you'll be lonely over Christmas and off work until Jan 2nd . You say you had a friend but not anymore . Don't know anything about you except these things but what do you do in your spare time normally ? Are you a sociable type of person or normally happy with your own company ? Any clubs , photography, cycling ,book groups , that might help you meet new friends , if this is what you'd like ? You say you wished you could work over the holidays. Are your evenings free to work somewhere else eg. a pub , where you could start now and prob get work over holiday time and afterwards too ?
  • Ive lost my friends over the years, they get sick of me because I don't enjoy the same things as them. My last friend said she was talking to her boyfriend and I don't fit into the plan anymore. As for my parents, they disowned me about 4 years ago. I moved away, infact I don't even know where they live now. So its just me, the tv and laptop.

I've tried making friends but when they get to the interests etc they start mocking or think I am wierd.

So I just stay in. I really hate this time of year,

How bad were things with your parents? Could you try finding them on facebook? There might be cousins, etc. of yours on there that you could talk to.

Oh !!!!!!. There is nothing wrong with spending the day alone. That is the exact reason why I opt out of the whole holiday. People should not be pressurised into giving gifts, sending time with people the don't like or doing things they don't want to do just because society expects it.

OP - its just another day. The sun will rise (eventually), time will pass, and night will come. Enjoy yourself in your own way. If you want to get a takeaway and a film then do it. How dare anyone dictate what you "should" do with your own time.

I don't think Meritaten was trying to dictate ... OP seems bothered by the fact that he/she will be alone on christmas day which is why people are suggesting volunteering.

OP if it doesn't bother you then fair enough. I don't think it would bother me, to be honest, and I bet if you told people at work that you'd spent the day alone a fair few of them would envy you!

I like model trains, I love the detailing of them, I love how small they can be.
