just wondering - someone said that if you cancel a credit card (because otherwise you might end up with millions if you take up all the good offers) that it negatively affects your credit rating. does anyone know if this is true?0

There are 2 views on this and it depends on your circumstances somewhat.
I would say that in general you are better off cancelling cards you don't use for various reasons, but you can search the board if you want to get the full chapter and verse of this.0 -
While we're talking about Capital One....
Applied for a 0% interest, fee-free balance transfer card and got turned down for the first time in my life. High income, good credit history etc etc etc.
Strangely, they'd be quite happy to let me have a card with a balance transfer fee attached !!0 -

Mine arrived in less than a week.
When I called I was told the cashback started from the activation date, so I lost no time at all.0 -
How quick is the Capital One instant decision. It has been chuntering away now for 5 minutes
EDIT: Still thinking about it
EDIT: F5 and the screen came up with the "get back to you within 7 days"0 -
hello, can anyone help, is it worth getting cash back card from either tesco or asda or should I get one from elsewhere. ( I used to have GE Money cash back but its finishing in Nov.)
also can you get a cashback credit card through a cashback site ie Quidco etc
Thanks0 -
Tesco and Asda provide negligible benefits - Martin has a section on credit cards of this type - have a look at here for info:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/cashback-credit-cards
and it might point you in the best direction. Quidco has very little in the way of cashback cards - American Express from memory is about the only one, and one or two points type ones from MBNA perhaps.0 -
Thank you for pointing me at this offer, great!
There are a couple of things that one should be aware of:
1. Posting to the online account page can run four or five days after the spend.
2. Capital 1 have taken money by Direct Debit up to two working days earlier than indicated.
3. No facility for instant payment by Debit Card.
4. The secure e-mail is interesting - while you are composing your missive, the security system may log you out! So prepare message off-line, then cut and paste, and always check the "outbox" and "sent" items to verify that you have actually communicated!
None of this detracts from an outstanding offer, just be aware of these things when using the account.0 -
I have just been rejected by Capital One for the first time ever, despite no debts and a good salary. I don't understand this...... Could they be rejecting everyone applying for this great offer in the hope selling them a less attractive card????
Has anyone been accepted by Captal One for the 4% cashback card?0
