Hi!
I applied on-line for Capital One card with 4% cashback and was rejected despite having very good credit history. I wrote to their appeals department and then received an application form for the said card!
So just incase anyone got rejected with good credit history it might be worth dropping a line to their Appeals Department!
Be careful, if you complete another application form they may then do another credit check and the result may be the same! This will appear on your credit history. I am in the same position and they offered to review my case as long as they could do ANOTHER credit check which I declined. (Martin's article on this subject is excellent (as always)).0 -
If you already hold an ordinary Cap One card can you apply for the cashback one, I have an ordinary one which I pay off in full every month and wondered what the chances were of getting accepted for the cashback0

Hi John,
I think you can pay down your credit limit and use it as many times as like, not just once a month.
The limit is the amount you can have at any one time and not per month, so you could (in theory) use that amount every day and pay it off every day (subject to payment clearance of course).
I am not aware of any limit.
Hi lisyloo,
Thanks for further clarification, I vaguely understood that it was possible to make multiple payments but personally have always kept to the single one off payment to keep things simple. The idea making additional payments complicates things too much for me especially if it was to try to maximise cash back in this way. My worry is that I would get caught out if a payment was too late and I over step my credit limit.
Cheers again
John
Still learning after all these years.......:whistle:0 -

That's fine as long as your monthly spending is within your credit limit.
But for people who are really trying to maximise cashback they might be putting private spending plus business expenses for 2 adults on it.
An expensive holiday may also be an issue. My worry is that I would get caught out if a payment was too late and I over step my credit limit.
You can avoid this by checking on-line that your payment has gone through before spending.
I have found BACS to be totally reliable.
If you are using snail mail then yes you would need to be concerned and check before making large purchases but with on-line access at any time then I don't think this is a big issue.0 -
I took out an Amex cashback card at the start of September. My understanding was 3% cashback for first three months, then tiered cashback reaching the maximum of 1.5% at an aggregate level of £3500 spend. When I checked today, it actually says
Quote "(it's 0.5% on the first £3,500 a year, 1% between £3,500 and £10,000 and 1.5% above that)."
Did I imagine the more generous figures? I have phoned AMEX and they say taht the quoted figures as above have been the same for as long as she (the operator) can remember.
Please help as otherwise I fear the early onset of senilty in which case perhaps I should hammer my new Amex card while I can.0 -

When I applied for my cashback card, they wrote to me to say that I already had a credit card with them (obvoiusly one I had taken out ages ago to get a free cd player/Radio Alarm Clock !!!)
They asked if I wanted to cancel my application or cancel my older card.
I opted to cancel the old card and progress with the new one.
! week later all doneSam:happylove0
