Hi
I need to pay back my mum for some stuff she got us with her B&Q pensioner discount!
Does anyone know whther my new Capital One visa cashbakc card could be used for that - ie to pay off part of her cashback credit card bill!!? Or is that going too far?!
I've been trying their helpline this morning, going all the way through the options etc then seem to get cut off when I finally press 0 to speak to someone!
Thanks

I wish I had read all of this thread before. Keen to moneysave, I applied for the 4% cashback card but was rejected, so applied and got an Amex platinum. Of course, what I then found out was that very few outlets accept amex......... So, best advice for me please? Had intended to put all spending on my cashback card (supermarket, petrol, butcher, cinema tickets, theatre tickets...)Would the egg moneyback be the best for me? Thanks to all contributors for these excellent ,interesting and informative posts.0

This shocked me as I have no debt, no CCJ's etc so I paid £13.95 for an Experian credit report, it seemed from that the only thing I could do to raise my credit score was live in my house longer (2 years currently). I sent the credit report to the appeals address at Capital One only to receive the same form rejection letter in reply.
My only conclusion from this is that despite what they say Capital One are not actually interested in the financially prudent because they won't make money out of them.
Having read all this I totally agree with you! They don't seem that interested if you're going to be financially prudent (as we all are on here.........)0 -

Where can't you use your AMEX card..all supermarkets and petrol stations accept the card...0 -
Can't use Amex in Cinemas (for Orange Wednesday), for booking a London hotel overnight for a wedding, same in Bath for wedding anniversary surprise, lots local restaurants, Amazon and play.com don't accept it (I buy lots of second hand books).....0

Sorry, forgot to mention that Wilkinson (Wilko) also don't take amex. I find it a brilliant place for toiletries, cleaning stuff, so can't use my current cashback card there either.Sigh0

I note that the Cap 1 travel insurance seems to include cover for the Collision Damage Waiver (aka CDW, or LDW) excess on rental cars. Could be very handy, as this is often otherwise a costly add-on. (Though often it comes in a package with other add-ons, such as extra drivers and a tank of petrol, and the package is cheaper than buying these separately, even with no CDW.)koru0

That would be a balance transfer (from her card to yours) and would not qualify for cashback. Why not pay her back by using your card to pay for some of her purchases?
Thanks - good idea... except... then she'd get charged interest. But, she could pay it off from her bank account and I could pay a bit off her car which she's paying for on Monday... hmmm
thanks!.0 -

The main thing is to get the balance right which is why there are many different cards for different reasons. Even if you look at capital One cards they actually have two cashback cards ... one for 'good' credit rating and one for 'excellent' credit rating. They offer similar facilities except that the interest rate on the 'good' card is higher *18.65 versus 15.9%) and those that do not have a 'good' credit rating have to pay an £18 per annum fee.
To get that 'excellent rating you must
- have a credit card with a limit of at least £5000
- have had a credit card for 5 years
- have never missed more than 2 payments on a credit card or loan
- have credit card balances of less than £10,000
- not have any previous defaults
People keep saying credit is too easy to get therefore I agree with them tightening up the rules forcing people to earn their credit worthiness
