So instead of paying for a new ariel to be fitted & wired I could buy a freesat box. Probably about the same as a new ariel.
This is the option I would choose in your position, especially since there are doubts about your aerial. With a Freesat PVR all you'd have to do is unplug the Sky box and connect the Freesat in it's place.

To me the £10 a month on Sky just doesn't make sense.

Freetime is a far superior interface and the backward scolling EPG plus on demand offerings are miles ahead of a freesatfromsky STB with recording enabled.

Really, I didnt know that. I've asked a few times on here about the interface.
    Thank you.

There is a video if you scroll down to the middle of the right hand side of:

    http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/freesat-plus-with-freetime

It has all the basics of a Sky+ such as series record, reminders and single recording events.

What is great about the Freetime, and something Sky can't do, is the integrated catch up tv where you can just scroll backwards on the tv guide to the last week and if a show is available to view you can click straight from there rather than going into I-Player etc and finding it from there.

Considering Humax are selling Grade A STB's at £159 with 12 month warranty, £10 a month to Sky now seems a bit steep.

    Thats brilliant, loving the interface.
What section is that freesat box in? Because when I look in the freesat category I can't find one for that price!

The one I linked to is Grade A - i.e. it is a return and is being sold in 'as new' condition with 12 month warranty.

On the left hand side of the main page on Humax direct you will see the products section. In that section you hover over 'Manager's specials' and a menu will appear. Click on 'Freesat specials'. In this section you will see all Freesat STB's and you want the <Freetime> STB.
