Possibly because you would need a dish, as opposed to an ariel for Freeview; the latter more common.
if OP has sky im 100% sure there is a dish:p:D:D:D
humax freetime refurbished £165 incl. p&p we are using easy to use/install came in its original box like new

  • I must admit I'm thinking of leaving sky as well to cut down on cost, talk talk are my preferred option, but I have 2 multi room subs and a main hd box, I watch mostly HD channels and that is my worry could I go back to non HD for the most channels I watch like watch, scyfy, sky living, sky one and the kids disney etc, now I know that I can get most channels by buying the upgrade with TT but then Im stuck with not many HD channels I watch, I am thinking of netflix or blink to watch series that I cant get anymore or to get HD, just not sure what to do, dont want to be stuck in a contract if I dont like the picture quality, as you can see just dont know what to do, HELP :)

That is the new Freetime Player, there is no PVR facility with that model.

I read the listings quickly , so didn't notice. That will be why it is so cheap, yet our second Humax Freeview PVR was only £70 from Tesco.

Well I rang sky up today & they offered me the basic free channels plus keep their recording function for £10. Yes it's £2 more than talk talks offer, but I dont need to worry about sorting out the ariel & most importantly I'm familar with & used to sky.

You do realise that the basic free channels will still be available from your current equipment if you simply cancel SKY completely? If recording is so important to you, do note that paying Sky £10 a month indefinitely will be far more expensive in the long run than buying a Freesat PVR which will record without subscription.

Yes, I realise I'm paying the £10 per month, I could shell out 2 years subs & buy a freesat + box, but the interface could be different, not as user friendly. Also reading the reviews on amazon of the various boxes, quite a few were from unhappy ex sky users - that was the clincher.

Do also be aware that your Sky decoder isn't getting any younger and a replacement would cost a similar amount.
The "user interface" is very similar to Sky and you won't have to wade through reams of channels you no longer subscribe to when channel surfing.

I'm with Moneyineptitude, if you want to pay for the privilege of watching and recording free TV just stay with Sky.

    If you don't, move.

I haven't committed to another 12 month contact.

The ariel was mounted by the previous people & cut off 6 foot from the ground. I could extend it. But would that work? I can't get a DAB signal here, I wonder would the tv signal be bad too?

If I went with the £8 a month deal from talk talk the box would be mine after 18 months (I think), but I could still possibly have ariel issues to pay out for.

So instead of paying for a new ariel to be fitted & wired I could buy a freesat box. Probably about the same as a new ariel.

Either way, I will wait till after Christmas. Tempted to take the free box from talk talk & try out the ariel extension & see if it works. The box only costs me £4.50 p&p & I'm staying with talk talk, so don't mind being tied in. Cheap way of testing. If I could divert ariel lead around the front I could install it in my bedroom.
