help!!! sky or talk talk? anyone got talk talk tv?

I moved my BB & phone to talk talk in June, I kept my TV with sky.

I have a basic package, I only watch 1 to 5, but I do like to series link & record my favs to watch when I'm ready. I think I pay about £22 for sky.

My talk talk phone & BB package has been half price, but will be going up to the full price of £7.50 next month.

Talk talk have called today & offered me a basic box free (£4.50 postage) within that £7.50 BB & phone price!!! It wont have a plus (recording function though), it will have catch up or on demand or something like that. I don't actually use those services with sky, but I would have to without a record function.

OR, I can pay them £15.50 a month, an increase of £8.00 & get a box that records.
DOES IT RECORD IN THE SAME WAY AS SKYS INTERFACE?

so its free for a basic box, an extra £8.00 for a recording box or, I called sky & asked for their best deal & they offered me the box for £15 a month, for a year, but tied into a contract.

HELP?????

The YouView box offers all the standard PVR functions to record Freeview via your aerial, plus on-demand services via your broadband.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Is a youview box the talk talk box?
You have to pay an extra £8.00 to record. Its free without recording.

Do you have a talk talk box?
    Whats the interface like?

Does the talk talk box have to be connected to an outside ariel rather than the dish coax?

A PVR or PVR with You View can be bought from a High Street or internet retailer and is not connected to Talk or Sky.

With a Freeview PVR (Eg Humax brand) you can watch all Freeview channels, including 1-5, free (of course). You can series link , besides pausing, rewinding and fast forwarding your recordings. Live tv can be paused and rewound, provided you don't change channel.

A PVR with You View also has access to the catchup channels, which you can get online ie I-Player,4OD etc.

    Yes thats right.
  • We have a Talk talk TV box. In order to watch and record TV you must be connected to a standard aerial.

In order to watch the catch up service you need to be connected to the internet.

Whats the interface like - the user experience, is it like sky? Sky is very user friendly.
  • The user interface is very straightforward.
The big feature of YouView is that the programme guide shows you programmes for the next seven days and also displays the last seven days. Many of the programmes from the last seven days can be watched with a single click. This opens the relevant catchup player and takes you straight to the programme.
In addition to this there are lots of options for additional programmes that need further subscriptions (many from Sky).
If you record programmes a lot it would be worth opting for the more expensive package. The recorder is very simple to use and includes series record etc.
Another very useful feature of both boxes is that when you are watching live TV you can pause it and rewind etc.

Someone has mentioned to me I might need a digitial ariel?
  • i hope this is ok but I too am interested in this thread. I am with sky and thinking of talk talk as it looked a good deal for tv phone and internet but when i spoke to sky about cancelling them i was told i would have to have new number and possibly be witout internet and even tv and phone and that sky channels through talk talk would slow down as buffer because i am not in an area with fibre broadband . Sky have offered to match talk talk price and talk talk did feel a hard sell . But are sky telling me the truth ? Sky also said talk talk are in trouble with ofcom
