Someone has mentioned to me I might need a digitial ariel?
There is no such thing as a "digital" aerial. If you already have an aerial, you'll likely be already fine to receive digital broadcasts unless the aerial is very old or broken.

Sky have offered to match talk talk price
That seems like a good deal to me, it also means you won't have to have anything new installed.

i hope this is ok but I too am interested in this thread. I am with sky and thinking of talk talk as it looked a good deal for tv phone and internet but when i spoke to sky about cancelling them i was told i would have to have new number and possibly be witout internet and even tv and phone and that sky channels through talk talk would slow down as buffer because i am not in an area with fibre broadband . Sky have offered to match talk talk price and talk talk did feel a hard sell . But are sky telling me the truth ? Sky also said talk talk are in trouble with ofcom

    That's extraordinary. And mostly nonsense.
The big question is what is your broadband download speed? If it is greater than 5Mbps then you are OK and you don't need fibre.
As regards transferring your number I would have thought that this would be possible - ask TalkTalk about this.
And again ask Talktalk about the transition process to find out how soon the new broadband service would be connected.
Does it matter if you are without a phone line for a few days - do you have a mobile phone?
You must have a working normal aerial (to replace the satellite dish) to pick up Freeview TV which is part of what the YouView box uses. Your TV is bound to have a tuner in it which will receive TV from this aerial so that should cover you while the transfer takes place.
And the reference to Ofcom - are they suggesting that TalkTalk are about to be closed down? Total rubbish.

The change over happens on one day.
Are sky really offering to match talk talks price?
Talk talk offer TV, bb & eve & weekend call package for £7.50 a month & you can get your monthly line rental down to under £10 a month by paying in advance.

I didn't think sky could touch that??

They want £15 from me for the basic tv package alone.
I can get similar by paying talk talk an extra £8, but I do like the sky interface & I'm worried the ariel I have won't be right?

@janeyxxxxx -Just on the question of your phone number -was your line originally a BT line transferred to Sky? If so, they cannot stop your number being moved over to TalkTalk.
HOWEVER, if your line/number was originally provisioned by Sky then the situation is more complicated -currently Sky seem to be able to drag their heels -OFCOM seem powerless to force them to give up the phone numbers if they originally issued them.

I have talk talk and whilst I am reasonably happy, I cannot record anything other than the freeview channels. By that I mean I have paid extra for channels such as sky, Discovery, National Geographic etc, but there is not the ability to record them, just watch live. I may be wrong, but I'm sure I never saw anything about that when I signed up.

Predictably, when I asked Talk Talk, they were non commital and just said that if that option becomes available, then they will inform me!

Does anyone have any insider knowledge as to whether that option is liable to come about in the near future?? Thanks

Possibly because you would need a dish, as opposed to an ariel for Freeview; the latter more common.

Yes, and in the very near future. Both BT and TT are trailing these new recordable internet channels right now, but they have not announced any release dates.
