  • Each to their own, but it beats me why anybody would want a bin outside the front of their house if there is an alternative place to put it.

I live in a village and bins are spirited away out of sight as soon as the bin men have done their job. If you aren't in, your neighbours put your bin away for you.

I have a small back yard, but a large front drive so they live out front.
  • ref the sky dish they didn't actually approach me about it, they went via the landlady for that aswell, guess they just assumed I would be getting one!

I must add, from their kitchen you can see their own sky dish, but they would be unhappy about seeing ours? there is no view, except of the side of someone elses garage further along the road
  • knew it!!! just had the phonecal from the letting agent, can we move one of the cars! not sure if this has come from the landlady herself or the neighbour. think this may be the final straw, there is a much bigger house for 100pcm more 2 streets away. love this place but I cant have potentially years of being asked to do xyz. whats it going to be like in the summer when we have bbqs etc? please only grill foods of certain flavours/tastes?

Why won't the landlady talk to you directly?
It's silly things but the frequency getting towards harassment. I mean its like the landlady has someone spying on you.
  • Wheelie bin placement...what a first world problem!

Honestly I wish people would live and let live.

We put ours out front for convenience, and that's where they will stay.

It sounds like you are living where we used to!

In our last rental we had the neighbours (who were friends of our LL) dictating where we could put our bins, how often we 'had to' cut the grass (more than 2" long is offensive), where on the (very long) drive we could park the car, how often we should sweep the paths (twice a day please, more in autumn) the positioning of our curtains (please don't keep them closed during the day), we could park our car inside our garage but not in front of it as they wanted to park their car there (er effectively blocking ours in yes?) ............... oh the list went on, fully backed up by our t**t of a LL and his merry band of snoops. Drove us nuts, we were made to feel like squatters, could never enjoy the garden, especially as they would wander around it doing 'inspections' whilst pointing out it wasn't our garden, it was his and how they would tell him that we had done x, y or z (leaving sons bike outside of shed, not in, that sort of thing).

Basically if you are getting grief already then run for the hills, trust me it only ever gets worse!
There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out.

Oh dear Lord! If I was in your situation I would certainly ignore the most recent request! Or park it right infront of the home of the person I thought was responsible for the complaints!

ETA: I'd probably also mention the "harassment" word when speaking with the LA/LL!

  • also apart from mon-fri 7-6 they were completely out of site because one of our cars blocked them!

You mean, they can only see the bins when their curtains are open. When your cars are in the drive it is time to shut the curtains anyway at this time of year.

btw I think your neighbour is an idiot. There is never any reasoning with someone who stresses about someone else's bin. It will be the colour of your primulas next.

Write to the landlady and tell her you have a right to quiet enjoyment and this continued intrusion constitutes harassment. You will take legal action if it continues.

You could make an offer for early surrender at the same time if you are serious about getting out.
