We all know of the recent polls regarding identity etc in the North but I'm not aware of any in the South regarding future reunification. Might be interesting to know how the average Irish voter/taxpayer would feel about it.
I worked for over one year in the ROI and there was no appetite for a UI, it was actually quite interesting and enlightening to see how different we are in some ways.0 -

I worked down there on and off for about 8 years and agree with your comments. Most people down there display a common sense which just can't be found up here.0 -
I would be more interested to hear how the Irish govt would intend to remove British identity from the best part of a million people who currently identify as such, in a hypothetical United Ireland.
It's pie in the sky, and Sinn Fein know it is, and if they ever need to wind up the flashpoint loyalists all they have to do is mention it. Works like a charm. Discussion about it is at the end of a long list of issues that need to be resolved before anyone can even think about it.

would Northern Unionist settle for a UI where they could hope to have government on a regular basis, given the closer outlook of Unionist and Fine Gael.
the protection of minority concerned by a increased strength of the Upper House /Senate.
The continuation of PR elections to maximize the effectiveness of their vote.
The full integration of schools and the removal of religious education unless they opt for purposely for religious education.
The right for Loyal orders to parade whatever commercial center on public holidays.

would that do?0 -
No I am going to continue to be myself just like Emmett. Glynn you and I are from different worlds and the only thing that unites us is MSE.
I don't mind that you feel like that. We're all entitled to be ourselves. You're just as entitled to be here as any of the rest of us. There is a standard of behaviour expected though and I hope you recognise that now?0 -

Is this your own train of thought or is it from Eire Nua?0 -

Probably not, but then my interest in active politics only stretches as far as the opinion that anyone who actually wants to be a politician, probably shouldn't be allowed to.the protection of minority concerned by a increased strength of the Upper House /Senate.

I don't believe it would matter to be honest. Local politicians have shown themselves to be entirely unwilling or unable to deal with local issues. The full integration of schools and the removal of religious education unless they opt for purposely for religious education.
I went to integrated schools and would fully support them for everyone, but don't get caught up in a belief that they solve all problems. The right for Loyal orders to parade whatever commercial center on public holidays.
I'm no great supporter of the loyal orders but that sounds like you'd be breaking a few EU laws there at least restricting them to only public holidays.Holding British passports
Having been born in the United Kingdom this is a given right anyway.
As I said before though, it's pie in the sky and that's why noone discusses it publically. It won't even be up for discussion until two communities can live side by side happily.0
