A simple and probably unnecessary moan about family.

It is usually my house the whole family descends on at any anniversary, Christmas etc. but I have just moved from a very large spacious 4 bedroomed house to a very small poky two bedroomed house.

I love seeing my family (apart from the crazy aunt) but will be interesting.

*waits to see what the plan is :)*

I really really hope that six weeks notice is enough to book hotels, because I need to do that for the week after Christmas!!!

Tropez, before you go or while you're away it may be worth chatting to Mum about her hopes for seeing the rest of her children before Christmas or in the New Year. I wouldn't be having them in my house again, but maybe if she sends Christmas cards she could put some suggestions in. Then leave it up to her and them.

Tropez, I pray my son (and daughter) grow up showing as much love and respect to me as you are showing to your mum right now.

She definitely made a good decision when she chose you out of the many to be her son.

Aw, you're all far too kind. :)

She didn't choose me though; more a case of birth-mother abandoning me with her but I am very thankful mum didn't give me up. I should be thankful to birth-mother for that too because the "care" unit in that area was one of the ones that became part of the historic abuse scandals a few years back. I think I got lucky there, unlike some others :(

She chose to keep you though, and you sound like an excellent son :)

You could mention to your mum while you are away that you will be wanting to spend your wedding anniversaries without house guests from now on, and that you may be putting up members of your wife's family over christmas periods, so could she please not say to your siblings that they can stay with you.

Sadly it sounds as if they won't make the effort to see her unless you're providing bed and board, but you could offer to drive her to stay with one of them.

  • Tropez, you sound like a great fella - both your mum and wife are lucky :)

Nothing more to add really other than to reiterate - hope the wedding goes brilliantly and don't let that bunch of idiots back in your house ;)

(regarding the condom...it's not desecration but it is pretty urgh when they couldn't even be bothered to put it in the bin properly!!)

Tropez - not sure how you are getting from Vegas to Lake Tahoe, but if you are driving I would seriously recommend a trip to Yosemite (if the pass is open at this time of year) and a little ghost town called Bodie that is a bit further north of Mono Lake on the Vegas - Tahoe road (I395).

It might be too cold to get to either, but Tahoe is a beautiful place.

We'll be getting a plane from Vegas to Tahoe due to it being a 7 hour(ish) drive across state. I will be renting a car when we get there though so I'll see what's about - and what the state of the roads are, of course.

The drive around Tahoe is beautiful, but Emerald Bay is probably going to be shut due to snow. Carson City is worth a visit and a little further away is Silver City - another old mining town that looks like a film set.

I was lucky enough to be married at Logan Shoals Vista Point at Tahoe. Its about 4-5 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on the western side of the Lake. Has a fantastic view, as do the ski lifts up to the ski resorts. You'll have a great time there.
