Yeah but it is when 1 trial week turns into another unpaid with no cards close to being on the table because their the employer can say their just still not sure, that isn't motivating in anyway

    Who works for free?

How the Jobcentre allow it I'll never know, this is people's lives being messed with : (
No its to offer yourself when the job offer has been made for free like a trial so they the employer has nothing to lose. Not offer to work for free and be taking for a ride.

Anyone can prove themselves in one week - that's all it takes.

How does a Government create more jobs? Tell employers 'you will take on 10 new people or else?

Spending creates no jobs and or manufacturing in whatever field but they need the orders first to do so.

You can never have full employment and that's a fact.

If this is a serious question I can think of one way the government could.....Reclaim all the call centre
Jobs that have gone offshore with a financial penalty for each job (or a tax benefit for each returned to the UK)
Not only would this create the jobs themselves but would also create support roles etc. it'd be very popular with the public too as many people struggle using offshore agents anyway. These jobs already exist so would be real jobs not artificial ones.

Business will just locate totally to another country as they can do and then what? We lose more jobs here?

If Government tell business what to do then I'd love to see it.

Its gone abroad as its cheaper - the only reason.

Maybe the UK customer should only use companies with UK based teams. I left BT and have gone to PlusNet because of this. Support UK firms and UK workers :)

    AP007, your post #8 is incredible :T

I have no entrepreneurial brains whatsoever but I can imagine there are people who would pay you to do what you are doing for yourself for them.

So how do you get people from where gay_guy is to where AP007 is? He's struggling to even see how he could do more when we've just been shown how job hunting can be a full-time job in itself.

    That's embarrassing haha

'people who would pay you to do what you are doing for yourself for them.'

Would you believe that's what the Work Programme is meant to do for people!

To all you knockers of the unemployed and your views on how easy it is to get a job.
Does this mans commitment not prove to you just how difficult the job market is? Here is a man doing everything you all say will get him into work but it hasn't.
What do you think the explanation is for that?
Me a man or gay guy? I am a lady :)

How difficult the job market is? It's difficult when companies make the jobs out to be something they aren't.

    A reply I had recently:

'We have had an amazing response to this vacancy, hence it has taken some time for us to screen all the applications.

At this point, we have now shortlisted who we are going to progress to the first stage of the process but I am afraid that the team has decided you have too much experience for this particular position'

When I asked for an explanation of 'too much experience' the follow up reply was

'I appreciate how frustrating and bemusing it can be when applying for opportunities and not getting through the application process to first stage.

For this vacancy, we are looking for someone who has possibly got a year or so experience - an ‘assistant’ level post, and looking for the next step in their career. Given the number of years’ experience you already have, in our organization, you would be considered for a different role to this but we only have a tiny finance team in the UK so we don’t have any other vacancies at present.'

Companies do not know how frustrating it is as some have asked me why I am not working. Above is an example why!
