I don't think anyone was saying it is easy to get a job. Wasn't the point that it is easy to spend 35 hours a week looking for work? In the grand scheme of things, I would suspect that AP007 is far more likely to succeed with their approach than someone who spends an hour a day skimming sites for jobs they can do. The question was "How do you spend 35 hours job searching..." and AP007 explained how you do it - very well I might say.

What makes you think I am skimming Job sites? you don't know anything about me, and you certainly don't know what I do to apply for Jobs.

Your quite right, I apologize for using the wrong thread to vent in.
I just get sick to death of the usual crew intimating that jobseekers are lazy because there are jobs out there if you want them.

I do everything I can to apply for jobs and I always apply for jobs every day but you got to remember there have been job cuts and it was on news a few days ago about that shipyard cuts on BBC News.

There are a lot of shipyards in the Greater Manchester conurbation then? Because otherwise I fail to see the relevance either to your own jobsearch; nor to the question you asked which was how it is possible to spend 35 hours a week looking for work.

Nobody has knocked the unemployed, nobody has said that they are lazy, and nobody has said that you aren't trying the best you can to find work. But your responses suggest that you are just looking for an argument.

AP007 has made some really good suggestions that answered your question and may help others to do some things differently and get a job. Yes there's a lot of unemployment about, yes it's tough for some people to get jobs especially in some areas - but sitting around whinging about it may be gratifying but it won't get anyone a job. Upping your game, just as AP007 has done, just might. And now they are being knocked by their fellow unemployed for trying hard!

Fair enough. I am sure we are all aware both that there are a majority of unemployed people who try hard to find jobs, and also a small minority who wouldn't work if a job hit them in the face and get everyone a bad name. So I get that it's frustrating. And that it is horrible to be treated as a skiver because you don't have a job, or you have a job an happen to be sick, or whatever... There's a lot of "blaming" around.

As it happens I do have a job, but I didn't for an awfully long time so know I what it's like.

Well good for you but maybe you in a big town with lots of Jobs? that is not the case everywhere you know.

I do everything I can to apply for jobs and I always apply for jobs every day but you got to remember there have been job cuts and it was on news a few days ago about that shipyard cuts on BBC News.

Lots of people find it hard when not getting any feedback from Job applications, not just me you know. :(

Here is the link about the shipyard cuts: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-24827221
What's feedback got to do with job applications and looking for work?

    You have shipyard experience?

Did I say I was talking about you? You are just looking for a fight. You may be angry about being unemployed. Picking fights under the guise of asking a question on a forum isn't productive.

I thought AP007 made a useful and positive contribution to a genuine question, but if the question wasn't genuine and was simply intended to pick fights about why you can't get a job, then I se no point in prolonging this discussion or the thread.

And as it happens I have been fortunate enough to never have been unintentionally unemployed or needed to claim benefits. But that doesn't mean I don't know what it is like, or hate people knocking all the unemployed for the actions of a small minority. Nor am I a fan of this government or its policies, for which I did not vote (although I do vote!). But realities are realities, wherever you live and whatever you do - and I admire the likes of AP007 who is trying to make the best of that reality and make it into something better. Grumbling is easy, but it doesn't get you anything but ulcers :(
