It does. Not sure if he's actually got the paperwork for it though.0 -
I believe a subsequent failure would void any previous MOT.
No it doesn't.
In "normal" circumstances the old MOT is still valid, but you would have no defence if you were pulled over and charged for driving an unroadworthy vehicle (different to driving without an MOT) if you knew it had failed and the faults hadn't been fixed.
In this case, the Op would be on safer ground because he'd been told it had passed (he wouldn't be automatically expected to know that the light on its own is a fail) and it does still have a current MOT.
The dealer, on the other hand, has no such excuse and appears to be guilty of several things, possibly including fraud. Don't hold your breath waiting for anyone to act on it though!0 -

It doesn't. Any MOT issued is valid until its expiry date. A later MOT does not void the earlier certificate issue, but the later failure will still be recorded on the VOSA database and can be seen by anyone querying the information (i.e. Police, VOSA). However, the car remains legal to use under the previous MOT; although a later failure may mean greater investigation being undertaken in the event of a problem such as an accident.0 -
I have the full service history. Apart from the April MOT certificate
SH is meaningless really, when the garage have sold you a car with a fault, told you it's got a new MOT which it hasn't, and lied about what's happening.
Just take it back, and ask for a refund. Stop giving these clowns the benefit of the doubt - if they've bodged/lied about the MOT, what else have they lied about?
Name and shame.0 -
They don't issue MOT certificates anymore. Its all online. You should be able to tax the car with the current MOT, green slip V5 thing and your insurance document at the post office.
That doesn't solve all the rest of your problems though.:(Debts :Paypal £1981.32
Monzo Loan £4278.16
Virgin CC £2137 0% until Dec 23
HSBC £5471.01 0% until Feb 2025
Emergency pot £404.47/2500
1p Savings Challenge £1.45/660
52 week Savings: £22.00/14000 -

I could do but I would be on my own and don't think I would make much progress, my mums boyfriend is coming with me tommorow and he's much better at this kind of thing
I am printing this of to take in with me:
Faults with car:
- SRS airbag light on
- Remote key fob not working
- Rear wiper water pump not working
- Thrust bearing still making noise after 900 miles (was told it would wear in)
Lies told to me:
-Tax has been ordered 3 times (phoned DVLA who confirmed tax order hasn’t been placed)
-Car has passed MOT 18/10/13 (Phoned VOSA who confirmed car had failed MOT on SRS airbag)
False advertisement:
-Car was advertised on website as 59,969 miles, actual mileage 70,000
-Car was advertised with alloy wheels
Other:
-I have no MOT certificate for April 2013 MOT
The car is not legal to drive because of no tax disk. The car was sold knowingly with a fault.
