weird eggs found under shed
I have just removed an old shed from my garden to replace it with a metal larger shed. The original shed was raised using breeze blocks.
On removing the floor from the shed I came across all these (hatched) eggs, I did take a photo of them but have no idea how to put it on here for viewing, so I am limited to describing them im afraid.
Ok there are lots of them, must be in excess of a few hundred. theyre best described as like kashew nut shells. kind of light brown, with an exit hole, they must be about the size of a nut, yet slightly larger (just a bit) and indeed certainly look like shell casings of kashew nuts except egg shaped. although not buried, they were gathered above the soil, yet between the air space of the breeze blocks. Obviously they are eggs of some form of insects, but I have absolutely no idea of what.
My OH suggested silverfish and woodlice, as there were a lot of those things, due to the rotten wood. But to my limited knowledge silverfish and woodlice dont hatch from eggs.
Has anyone out there got any ideas to what they could be???
Im so anxious to find out mainly to stem my curiosity.

Have to admit I have NO idea but might be worth trying your local zoo? they might be able to narrow it down for you? I would say with that big a number at that size I'm thinking reptile... But I never did well at biology so no like I know what I'm on about

Sorry, I have no idea, but you've made me itchy.0

I was thinking reptile as well - bit big for insects unless you have 6" spiders/woodlice etc?0

slow worm, grass snake, stag beetle just guessing really. We had some egg casings that were a bit like rice crispies, turned out to be flies0

They might actually be the shells of nuts, taken from bird tables and brought to safety beneath your shed by mice.0

Correct me if I'm wrong, but any creature that isn't a mammal hatches from an egg. (With a few exceptions).0

Not all... garter snakes and rattle snakes for example give birth to live young - no eggs. Not sure if we have any in the UK that would birth live young though...
Other live bearing reptiles:
Some lizards: Solomon Island skink, Blue-tongue skink, Shingle-backed skink
Some chameleons: Jackson's chameleon
Some snakes: All boas, All vipers
But as I say I don't think we have those here in the UK
edited to add - I'm pretty darned sure we don't have rattel snakes etc here but I don't know what the hecka skink is so hence the dunno - just in case you thought I was totally useless with my reptiles lol!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

If they are very hard they could be fruit stones. We get hidden stores of cherry stones from the garden trees, collected by mice once the birds have eaten the flesh.
Something similar, perhaps?0 -
i don't have a clue what they might be...but I'm feeling a bit nervous about going down to my outbuildings now...
