My beloved Velocity tyres are coming to the end of their lives, and they were the best tyres Ive ever had. Problem is, Yokohama dont make them anymore  Even madder because they were a bargain at £60 a piece!

So, Im looking for 4 Budget Tyres, have you found any that you think highly of? I need 225/45/17 's

Have a look on https://www.justtyres.co.uk they have premium brands for around £90 all in & budget for £65.

Don't forget to clik the 'coupon' button & get a voucher for another £5 off. (at least that's what we got last month!)

They offer a lonnnnnnnnng guarantee, too!

Saves all the hassle of mail order & then finding a fitter & then who you blame if there's a problem!

Auto Express did a Tyre Test (PDF) where they give quite a comprehensive overview of different brands of tyre, premium and budget. :D

Apologies, that PDF file isn't the one I was looking for, well it is, but it's not the authentic Auto Express one... bear with me :o

Bah :( I can't find it, I'll carry on searching though. In the meantime, I found this which doesn't seem as comprehensive but should be better than my near-useless link :rotfl:

I saw a tyre test possibly in Auto Express where they compared some of the brand names with budget tyres supplied by unknown/not popular companies. Places like Kwik Fit were selling Debica tyres for £100 for 4 tyres for a Mondeo sized car. The Debicas were appalling in the wet stopping a good 10metres + compared to one of the brand leaders........ And we had Debicas fitted to our runaround so I changed them pronto!

£60 is about mid range for a tyre depending on tyre size so you can get some good makes.

It's very important too - the tyres are all your car has to keep in contact with the road, it's only about the surface area of your palm on each tyre that contacts the road surface, so you definitely wanna make sure the tyres grip well!

Keep us informed, as I've added this thread to the Motoring A-Z so others in future can benefit from this info :D

I recently looked at tyres on blackcircles.com for a set of 4. Ones they could not give a named brand on, i.e. their cheapest, were just over £100. Michelin Energy E3B's were only about £160 so I thought the extra £60 for the brand and the possibility of extended life would be worth it.

I had a "regal" tyre (think the brand is owned by goodyear) which was new but had a rip in the sidewall. This was before the tyre belonged to me so no idea what caused it. I guess these things and punctures etc can happen to any tyres though.
