Thanks both of you!
Robyn, who do you need to make an appointment with to give notice? Is it the registrar?
Oops - I've not been on in a while so missed this! We had to give notice in the registry office for where we live, even though it's a different town to where we're doing the wedding.
We've not covered much more off since last time however recently I'm starting to feel a little less relaxed and am aware that we're getting married THIS YEAR!! Crazy but in a good way.
Just need to sort the bridesmaid dresses out, really struggling on finding something affordable and getting everyone together on the same day to go shopping!!0 -
Hi Ladies
I'm also an August bride and just noticed this thread! We are getting married on 22nd August (a Friday). Reading this post has made me realise how unorganised I am!
Here's what we've got so far:
Venue: Marquee in my auntie's garden
Ceremony: Hopefully in the garden but otherwise in marquee
Dress: Paid 50%
Wedding Insurance: Debenhams
Band: Booked! Plus they have their own disco too!
Save the Dates: Sending this week
My to-do list is sooo much bigger..
Bridesmaid Dresses: Hopefully eBay but my 2 BM's not keen AND not keen on colour suggestion!!
Kilt Hire: H2B has been to try on, but hasn't booked
Celebrant: Having Humanist ceremony, enquired but not arranged
Invites: Want to make own but unsure..
Catering: Not booked yet and stressing...having Afternoon Tea after ceremony and BBQ at night
Table Decorations: Eeek can't decide!
Flowers: Know what I wan't but haven't even enquired
Hair/Make-Up: Not even made any enquiries. Have done a bit of freelance make-up work so might do my own make up but worry it's too stressful!
Honeymoon: Know we want to go to Tenessee/Atlanta but not booked anything yet
I have no doubt forgotten something!
Do any of you use any wedding planning tools? Like lists/wall charts etc? I think I need all of those! :rotfl:0 -
I have downloaded a couple online that I found on here, there's a wedding tools thread somewhere? Have a look on there.
Re bridesmaid dresses, BHS have a new range and they're currently doing 25% of meaning you can get lovely dresses for about £60 each.x0 -
Thanks RobynLouise, I'm getting married abroad, I must find out if I also need to do this!
Welcome Scotlass.I use moposa.com for to do lists and finances. You can delete and add ones according to what you need for your wedding. Try not to panic when they tell you lots of things are overdue..we seem to be in the minority as we are arranging our wedding within a year. I'm amazed how many people seem to plan it more than a year or two in advance, I don't think I could wait that long!
ps. I would prioritise the catering as your main project for now esp if your wedding is a Fri, Sat or Sun, in case they are booked out. Happy tums = happy guests. ;-) Then maybe give yourself target dates for everything else and make appointments when possible. I would then try to priorities the wedding invites and celebrant as the other things are about the style on the day and if necessary could be arranged closer to the time imho.0 -
I was also given this as a gift for my engagement (or maybe we were given it but I think OH has looked at it once but has no interest)
wedding diary
It has been invaluable as I can bring it with me to appointments/seeing those involved in the wedding and I can make notes there and then. I don't use all the structured organisers in it, I just use it as I like and ignore some of the headings (eg there are pages for your measurements and those of the rest of the wedding party - I will not be using these! nor will I be filling out any of our names or details as I am funny about things like that.) It also has a 'to do' list at the back.
I have found that every 'to do' list is different so have a look at a few of them and try to put together one that suits you and rearrange it when necessary if you like that kind of thing!
Also, your honeymoon might be something to organise sooner as it should be cheaper the earlier you book it. I consider that as separate from the wedding planning for some reason. We have booked a lovely hotel only an hour or so from our reception as we realise the wedding and planning will be tiring/stressful enough without adding the pressure of flying and lots of tourism on top of it (besides, although we are getting married at home, that is abroad for us now so we will need to travel there too). Most people prefer to go abroad though and I hope you have a fantastic time.0 -
We are getting married August 16th and we have booked and planned practically everything. I like to be organised in case we do have a supplier pull out hopefully we will have time to rebook something else!Wedding August 16th 2014 :j0

Quick update from me:
We have finalised and paid deposits at our new venue and to be honest, I really am MUCH happier with them than I was the previous place so ?silver lining? We now have a proper official Toast Master (think red suit and the works), hog roast for our evening buffet (our previous venue quoted £23 PER HEAD for this, we are paying around £4.50 per head as the people who run the place do it themselves). We have also booked external catering and we are SOOO happy with the company we have chosen, we can now offer our guests CHOICE rather than it being dictated by us, and he does AMAZING puddings *drool*. We have confirmed venue changes with all necessary people.
I have made good progress in the last few weeks with my invitations, all my daytime and evening ones are done so now I just need to finalise the information on my additional information cards (I did consider a website but we have several older guests and I know they would not be able to access) and my RSVPs need to be changed as I now have to ask everyone what they want to eat so we know for the caterer...
I ordered new shoes - with us now being outside in a marquee I didn't fancy wandering around on those thing leather soled ballet shoes - I have some custom bling 'converse' which are much more my cup of tea than a proper shoe.
I have got nearly all my thank you presents and am in the process of making pretty boxes for these to go into so they all match. I have appointments with the florist (also the wedding venue manager, very handy!!) and for my menu sample in the next few weeks.
samehat I LOVEEEEE that book and I am very jealous as I can't find it anywhere!! lol... also, good advice on the honeymoon. We booked Turkey last August (so a year to go) and got it at a very good price, I have booked for September though as we wanted to try and avoid the silly prices in School holidays.
Panda well done on being so organised. I feel like I have LOADS left to do and have to be very careful to manage my anxiety about it - I went through a stage over Christmas when it was all up in the air of feeling very teary most of the time and suffered chronic migraines in that time. I hate not being organised too!!
Hope you are all doing well and feeling relaxed? Less than 6 months now ladies - how 'scary' is that!! xx:j Married to the Love of my Life 02.08.2014 - Now I'm Mrs E :j

Update
Done:
H2b Shirt/jacket - Dark Argyle Jacket and Waistcoat (With own Kilt)
Best men kilt hire - Dark Argyle Jacket and Waistcoat with 'Douglas' Kilt as H2B has a very expensive tartan.
Still to do:
Guest Photo Frame thing from Loxleys where guests sign the mount of a photo frame.
So this week we have been to the venue with the stylist to do a dry run and OMG it looks amazingWe posted the invitations as people kept asking us when it was, and have already received about 20% of the RSVPs back. Also made up the place names and the cake toppers arrived.
