Happy new year everyone! We get married this year!

Suits, photographer, videographer and band are now booked so it's been a successful couple of weeks.

How is everyone else getting on?

I got a diamond wedding band like this as it matches my engagement ring. It's very pretty.

That's beautiful! I went for diamonds as well :) just bought them on Wednesday! The only I have left to do now is buy my shoes and the bridesmaid shoes! Can't believe everything else is finished!

    How's everyone else doing?

  • Well we had a nightmare over Christmas! Our reception venue was hit by the floods and was forced into voluntary liquidation!! We had to start all over again looking for a new venue with only 4 days to go until Christmas!!

Anyway, we have managed to sort out now and although our new venue has ended up costing us a bit more than the previous, we are much happier with the people we are dealing with and the overall day we will get.

Not made much other progress though - am envious of you DubPrincess with only shoes to buy!!

Well done on getting your venue sorted again so quickly Tasha!

We've finally got a new venue booked too. I'm still confused about hair and makeup...got a quote for me + bridesmaid + mum for £330 including travel and airbase makeup but it seems so much money considering my dress cost £130! x

Urgent advice needed!!! We are printing our own invites and I have already printed the time of 12pm on the invites. Since been to the registrar who says people need to be there at 11.30

Do I redo invites or just tell people who RSVP....

August bank holiday wedding for us, I feel like it was a silly decision because its so busy in Harrogate over BH!

  • Abby - Have you got enough materials to reprint without buying extra? Are the peoples who've invites you have done close (for instance, your auntie or someone who wouldn't mind the verbal instruction)...

If I had enough to reprint without extra expense I would just redo but if you would have to buy extra consider who the invites are for and whether a verbal instruction would be suitable (for instance, my Grandmother would forget instantly I'd told her differently and go by the time on the invite - thus being later than me lol!).

Compbunny - that does seem an awful lot of money!! Have you shopped around a little? I am paying £25 for my make up (£15 for practise) and £20 for my hair (£10 for practise) but they are people I know.. That is just for me but I have told my bridesmaid she will have to pay for her own as I blew part of the budget on the new venue. I have had to make compromises and as I am paying £200 for her dress she can pay for her own hair and make up (or do them herself which is what I have had to do in the past when I have been a bridesmaid!)

Most of the people invited are people we are good friends with and also live near. There are no fillers if that makes sense. We have a ceremony list of 55 and then an additional 25 for our reception

  • If you think they will remember the time change then just send out the ones you have made already and make the rest with the proper time.. most people would try to get to a wedding plenty early anyway (i hope!! Lateness is one of my biggest bug bears) xx

    Hi fellow August brides!
I'm getting married on 28th August, a Thursday as our venue is stunning but insanely expensive at the weekends!

    So far, we have sorted:
Venue - Same for both ceremony and reception. Catering/drinks all done by venue.
Registrar - Booked and notification stuff done
Dress - More than I wanted to pay but I love it! I'm not a clothes person really but I am obsessed by my dress. It's weird what this wedding lark does to you!
Flowers - nice local lady who grows her own flowers
    Photographers
    Table decorations - moroccan lamps
Cake - being made by a lovely friend as a wedding present
Save the dates all sent last year (as it's a Thursday in the summer, we wanted to give everyone plenty of notice for booking holiday etc)
    Stag do

    Planned but not actually done/organised:
Bridesmaids dresses (actually have three coming for bridesmaids to try on. They're arranging their own shoes as one has weird feet!)
My shoes (again, have ordered several to try)
    Invitations
    Rings
    Hen do
    Music for party (jukebox! yay!)

    To do:
Everything to do with groom's outfit
    Best man/usher's outfits
Hair/makeup - insanely expensive! Might just have to learn to do it myself
Everything to do with ceremony - music, vows, etc etc

I'm sure there is stuff I'm missing.....

Good luck ladies! I'm sure time will fly. (Also- where are the wedding planning gents? Are they so very rare?)
    Debt: [STRIKE]£8652[/STRIKE]£8550:eek:
    Honeymoon and post-job savings: £50/£1100,
    DFD target: December 2015
    Saving for Xmas 15 #35: - £4/£365
NST December #28 - Food etc- £200.71/£260, :xmastree: & decs £0/40, Diesel £48/£110, Christmas presents and spending money £335.59/£380, Food Bank £5/5, SFDs 1/15.

Hi everyone! I hope the wedding planning is going well.

Abby, I'm sorry I've just seen your message now. I would say the advice given by Tasha is about right. To be honest, as a wedding guest, I usually know the approximate time and only check the exact time the day before or even on the morning! So for me it would need to be written on the invite. Saying that, I would happily alter the time on an invite so the correct time is in black and white. I don't know if you could suggest they do this or do it yourself with a fancy pen?

Alternatively, could you include a small note with the invites that indicates the correct time or an explanation of the requirement to be 30 mins early, so you are not altering the actual invites? If you assess how much it would cost you to reprint them on other paper and weigh up the options - as there are 55 and maybe some would be in family/couples, it might not be too much trouble letting them all know over the phone (mother of the bride and mil can be very useful for the family contact if you ask them)

Congrats and welcome Bex! We are also getting married on a Thursday - it's fantastic! When I contact a supplier/band etc and tell them it's in August, there is a sharp intake of breath as they prepare to tell me they are all booked up! Then when I say it's a Thursday there is no problem and they even give me a discount as it's not at the weekend!
