I'd sell it to get some of my money back.0 -
Where are you looking to? Do you have a safe and lock your cards in it as soon as you come home? Are we all supposed to have our cards locked when we are at home?
Probably not!My fourteen year old has over the last ten days used my wife's debit card.......
But it wasn't a one-off transaction, but several which happened over a time span of some ten days. Also should anyone leave their current account for ten or more days without ever checking?
It might not be 'negligence' in the legal definition, but in my everyday vocabulary, I would call it that.0 -

I'd give them 2 choices:
Sell the PS3 and games to pay the card bill, or
No birthday and Christmas presents for next 2 years.0 -
The problem with pursuing a refund through the bank is that they will want to pursue criminal charges against your 14 year old. Getting that £450 refund would likely mean a criminal record for your kid, that has far reaching consequences. I personally think the best thing is to sell the playstation, or make the kid work off the money or maybe both.Make £10 a day challenge in Feb £325.82/£280
March £78/£3100 -
It would be interesting to see what Sony would do. This is a somewhat different case from the usual story of children, usually innocently or at least some what naively, racking up charges on a card that's already present on the gaming system.
I've heard stories of a child racking up lots of Apple in-game purchases while playing a game on a parent's phone or a situation where a child makes purchases on their own gaming system which has been set up with the payment details of the adult. In both cases, it's possible the child was not knowingly spending their parents' money without their parents' knowledge. In this case, that doesn't seem possible.
In my view, it's the inadvertent aspect of the other cases which might make a company like Apple, Microsoft or Sony refund the money. I'm not sure they would be so accommodating when somebody was knowingly spending the money. This is everybody's fault but mine.0 -
I'd start with Sony and look to exploit their goodwill.
By all means look to get your money back from the bank. But be prepared to invest some of it in a suit for your son's court visits.0
