Also after posting on the more techie bit of the forum, have worked out how to tether my 3G from my mobile for my iPad to use. Done this for both DH and I so that saves us £20 pm! Hurrah! If anyone is interested in doing the same if they have a tablet device I can post the link to the thread.

hey all, I've had another rubbish day at work and I've concluded that a bad day at work seems to lead to me losing a SFD :( However, on a positive, I only spent £6.70 on fish and chips for tea for OH and I, whereas previously I would have spent at least £20 on an Indian takeaway and probably brought a lot of sweet treats at the shops too.

I did take my lunch to work today :)

  • Hello all.. a lot of us down in the dumps today... me too, I just feel so tired and a bit overwhelmed.

Came home from a stressful day work to have a row with some poor call centre lady at BT as they are being a pain in the a... nyway, DH came home and called them back and dealt with it all calmly and got it all sorted. Made me feel grateful but also a bit foolish and ineffectual, and guilty for getting stroppy.

Made a nice (cheap) dinner and stared at the spreadsheet together afterwards working out that we can hopefully meet our targets for this month, which cheered me up a bit.

SFD today - I think that's 11 now. That's something to feel good about. As is catching up with everyone here, drinking our virtiual tea together.
And NSK that's crazy - your working hours. How on earth do you get through that? It makes me feel tired just reading it!

Right, off to snuggle in a blanket with hot choc and a book till bedtime.. which won't be long! be good to yourselves gang x

  • Reporting another SFD today. Going to be a planned shopping day tomorrow...going to take a list to make sure I don't forget anything or buy anything that isn't necessary. Might do some Christmas shopping too if whether is okay. Got bids on two of my ebay items so should have a small profit to report by sunday.

Really finding this challenge helpful for cutting out on the unnecessary spends e.g. popping to the shops on the walk home after a busy day and 'treating' myself and i find i'm using the food i have in th ehouse rather than buying more. Should even be able to defrost the freezer at some point this month.

Thank you Kat, it seems to be much easier when I have somewhere to be accountable to.

I had every intention of this being a spend-free day and it was until 21:00 when I suddenly realised that I was working all weekend so we wouldn't get near a shop.

OH was crying out for fruit and veg (I don't really eat any). Off we went to tescimos (too late for morries) and guess what... you have broken me. I spent the entire shopping trip looking at the prices moaning about the expense.

We spent £19.55 on healthy foods for me and some fruit and veg for the OH. So we have £8.07 to last us for the rest of the month. However, before I start panicking I need to remember that we have a freezer full of meat and a cupboard full of tins and things. So, we will be fine.
    :)

Feeling a bit brighter today. Possibly cause I am now foccussed on what I am doing and have a better idea of where I am heading. Sometimes it just takes a sit down and a think about what you want in order to get into a better frame of mind.
    :o

    Hope everyone feels better tomorrow.
    Hugs.

Evening everyone - lots of hugs to all that seem to need it! Yikes, mid-month blues? Yes, we're almost half way though the month :)

I need to sit down and work out my money this month (for once, I've not got my multi-coloured spreadsheet up and running  I miss it!! ). Losing my purse earlier in the month means that all my money is together in one purse and it's getting a bit mixed up. Plus I seem to have spent most of my food budget. I'll update once I have an accurate account of my spends.

Someone tried to pick-pocket me on the tube - he got a swift belt on the head with my umbrella before he ran off! Really, what makes someone think they can just help themselves to something belonging to someone else?!! He didn't get anything from me, but I suppose he tried it on with someone else

Spent money in the greengrocer store today (that's my 3rd spend day so only 2 left :eek:). It was so old fashioned and lovely! Cheaper than the supermarket and local too so I'll visit again :)

I've sorted through my wardrobe and come up with 20 items to give away. I'll take some to the charity shop as soon as I get a day off, but I'm going to take a bag of clothes to H+M as they give £5 voucher when you drop off some used clothing. What's becoming apparent is that my PJs are well past their sell by date - all miss matched and full of holes! When the month is up I may treat myself to a new pair?

My laptop has been on it's last legs for the best part of a year now and the last few weeks have been even worse. It took over an hour to start up this morning  I NEED a laptop to earn money and, while I'll carry on til this one gives up, I fear it's a matter of time before I need new one :( My DFW aim was to buy an iMac when the debt is cleared so please keep all your fingers crossed that this one lasts til then as I don't want to get one while there's still debt (although, if I buy one in the next 3 months I can get 11% off it - long story) and I don't want to buy a cheap one because it'll not be cheap and also I really really want to hang on and get the one I want (wish there was a 'fingers crossed' smiley!!)

I'm still as upbeat as usual, but the weather's getting me down! I only have one oil filled radiator so only one room gets heated at a time. I've been living in my bedroom for the last few days as it's been so cold!! I must buy another - hopefully there'll be enough cash left at the end of the month for me to buy one. Sometimes when you buy cheap, if it's not right it's a false economy. Can anyone recommend one? I like the oil filled ones (my bedroom's nice and toasty just now with my current one!).
  • Lilyanna - What an excellent description of geocaching!

I am a big kid really, and love adventure and treasure hunts- so glad I'm not the only one on here who enjoys geocaching (though I certainly wouldn't split up with my OH for not partaking in it!) I have a free geocaching app on my phone so the activity works out as a free one for me (very MSE) :money: It's a great way to explore your local area (or wherever you're visiting around the world!), finding lovely areas you didn't know even existed, some caches have a bit of history that goes with them, some are placed in places that mean something to the person that owns them. Some have clues to help you find them, others are so well camouflaged they take some time to find! My favourite camouflages so far have been: a fake pinecone, a plastic duck, a handle for a sink and one which looked like it was part of a gate. Some of the people that own the geocaches are very creative with the way they disguise their caches!

    Annnnnnnyway.....

The sunshine (despite the cold weather) has definitely lifted my mood the last few days. Always seems to make life that little bit more manageable when the going gets tough!

    SFDs = 12 :T

Today was a spend day...so I made the most of it! I have spent my Christmas present budget for the month, which has helped me feel much more organised on the present front! I was also after some personalised cards as I have 3 birthdays in December so visited M00npig and they have an offer on at the moment, where if you buy 5 cards you get them at 50% off! Each card worked out at £1.68/card including postage, all personalised with wording and photographs. I am super pleased! Also meant I could get my Ma's card in advance for her Birthday in Jan. :)

Have been for a jog this eve with 2 friends, it's my second one of the week. I.am.so.unfit!! We're only covering 2.5-3mile routes at the moment, easy does it! I've never jogged/run with others before (other than at charity events), as I used to train in the gym (a long time ago!) as I felt too self conscious to run alone out in public. Much more fun and motivating to do it with friends, plus it's another free activity :T

Right, I think it's time to drag myself away from my computer and think about hitting the sack!

Hope you are all keeping warm on these chilly eves! *Squishels* for the lot of you! Tomorrow will be our hump day (middle of the month) for the challenge! Just keep swimming!!
