  • hmm so fallen off the wagon the last few days with no sfd and been buying sweets :(

think i am going to change the sfd's to 'not buying non essentials' days. i have found that if it is a spend day i am just buying sweets etc at work as 'its a spend day anyway'. think it will help me more to get into this mindset rather than not spending anything eg- if i do all my food shop on a sat and spend £1 on sweets, thats £1 wasted. if i did my food shop sat (no sweets) but forgot say rice and i go and buy rice (and only rice) on wednesday, whilst that is 2 spendy days, it is better financially as i have only bought what i need.

today is going to be a spend free day hopefully :) will need to buy dinner in london (prob mcd) but that will come from holiday budget. dont have anything for sandwiches and cant face cous cous 4 days in a row! going down to stay in the airport hotel overnight before milan :D

need to pack and sort out my bank travel insurance (need to check that i need to bring) and also call up cc and current account in case i need more money (as the 'kitty' me and my friends pay into each month is one of my bank accounts i will get out extra money if we need it and transfer it from kitty when get back). have got clarity cc and nationwide current acc so both free withdrawals abroad :)

getting my kindle fire today (early xmas pressie). v excited, going to pick up from po when i get dressed as was delivered yesterday. have already been looking at the free apps i want to get and have downloaded lots of new free books :) also got a bargain yest as rick steins india was only £2.69 on kindle and it has pictures and everything :) was thinking of getting it in hardback for xmas so pleased with that. its gone up to over £4.50 today as well ;)

puss is not being good for money saving. he has turned his nose up all week at the felix wet and has only eaten his biscuits. i have a few whiskers pouches a colleague gave me which i normally use when i go away for someone else to feed him as easier then portioning a tin. decided to give him a whiskers this morning and gave whole pouch by accident (forgot he has 1/2 twice a day). he has eaten the whole thing in one go!! means i will now need to buy him these pouches instead of his tins which work out 50% more :( i suppose it is still only £10 for 1.5 month of wet food which isnt too bad. will go to asda on mon for big shop and get them on offer. also need to get his litter, going to stock up on 3 bags from pah using my voucher so will be free. got 10% off as well so will get him some edible mice as they will be free :)

  • We must have hit a bumpy bit in the road - it seems like everyone is falling off the wagon! Stay strong NOvemberers! We're almost half way there.

Maybe next month we can have an emergency £5 stashed in our purses for mid month chocolate. What do you say NSK....? :D

Morning, after a few dark days and being in pain with my neck and shoulder I feel so much better. The dr said it was a "crick" and would right itself soon, this morning I have full range of motion in my neck with no pain but my shoulder still feels sore so I'm going back to work tonight.

Ordered the vaccum cleaner after giving the old one, one last go. I checked all the tubes, the main body of it and the cleaner head thingy, no blockages at all and turned it up to max. It still moved the dirt around though and cut out within seconds and wouldnt move away from the wall because the lead retracta is broken. I think the new purchase is justified and NSK will be impressed that I haven't bought one of those fancy "all frilly knickers but no trousers" dysons but a pretty pink Hetty. DH will hate it but the kids will love it.

I've also cleaned all the bathrooms and sorted some washing out and folded all the nappies, just using cloth nappies in the day at the moment but its saving money.

DH and I decided we are going to change where we shop next month and will not shop from where I work at all but will get the majority of shopping from his work, hey diddle lidl, savers for toiletries and the odd bits from Pound stretcher. We have £25 left to last us 11 days, I think we'll be ok as we have plenty in.

Oh and today will be another NSD taking me to 11. Being realistic I think I will manage another 7 before pay day taking me to 18. Good attempt.

  • Although today won't be a SFD as I'm meeting some mates after work for a beer  and catch-up, I have brought not just lunch with me today but also my dinner:money:! I have some time to kill between finishing work and meeting them so I'm going to warm my veggie curry and rice and eat before I leave. We have a nice lounge area at my office so I won't have to look like a loon eating my dinner at my desk! Plus I'll have lined my tum; I can't drink on an empty tum these days.....getting too old for that lark:rotfl:!

    Good morning!

Even if some of you have fallen off the wagon, don't give up, there is still plenty off time to finish the month close to our targets.:whistle:

SFD number 12 today :T. Will only do a small shop on Saturday instead of a weekly big shop as we have enough meals left in the freezer and I only have about 30 quid left in my budget anyway. Which means I might go over in the last week. However to minimise the spending I will probably sacrifice a SFD next week as I will only top up on fresh fruit and veg and bread and milk this Friday. But will see if cereal etc last. The packets are nearing the bottom third but instead of preemptively buying more I'll finish them first. So I might need two shopping days next week.

Did anyone watch Martin's :money: money saving programme on ITV the other day. I recorded it as I missed the start but of what I've seen (the get the best deal on presents by comparing prices, doh) I don't think I can learn much. Might see if I can watch it tonight though. Might be surprised.

    Glad you're feeling better MrsGSR

Checking in. Yesterday was naughty bought a gig ticket 38.95 had a refund off EDF of 51.00 so thought I would treat myself. My excuse my fav band.:D

Had to pay dentist yesterday all 95 pounds. Was expected but still a shock to my bank account. Needed some washing powder but left it yesterday felt tad rough after dentist bill.

Today got the afternoon off, unfortunately annoying lodger seems to be at home today -pulling a sickie. Really question whether lodger is worth it. Seems very moody, hardly talks, think I would save on heating and water bills without one, as wouldn't put it on as much.:(

Be lovely to have my house to myself when debt is cleared I will.:T

  • Hey all...

Can't believe we're nearly half way through November already! I'm doing surprisingly well considering I'm on holiday! Yesterday = SFD number 8 despite going to a shopping mall FULL of stuff... It was interesting - I was mentally saying, 'yeah it's nice - but it costs £xx.xx and that means less saved towards the end of the month'. It was the old adage - do I want it - yes! Do I need it - NO!

    Roll on another SFD!!!

  • I thought it was only me who was on a bit of a downer the past couple of days, I'm comforted to know that I wasn't alone.

I have got a food delivery coming tonight which will hopefully see us through to the end of the month with just the budgeted weekly veg box delivery. I may cancel this for one week though so it keeps me with the budget for the month. I'm not sure of the exact total cost yet, but when I do I will update my siggy accordingly.

I am seriously lacking on things to take to lunch until tonight's shopping. However, I am desperate not to break into the emergency lunch £5. I have got some loose change in my work drawer so I may stretch to nipping to the baker to get a roll to have with my cuppa soup. It is a spendy day for me today because of the delivery so I feel comfortable doing this. However, if I have the urge to spend on a SFD then I get that guilty feeling and it stops me from heading to the shops!!!

So I am up to 11 SFD's and 10 lunches.

I am really looking forward to getting to the end of this month and I cannot wait to redo my budget for December. I know exactly how much I want to spend at Christmas, I just want to get on with it now!!!

Hey NSK... just to clarify (or I am going to be in a heap of trouble):

When I am on holiday, I can spend my spending money without losing a spend-free day right?? (because it was budgetted for??)

    I am a bit confused.

Plan is for today to be another spend-free day which would take us up to 11. Hopefully.
    :o

Hope everyone else is feeling a bit better today.
    Hugs.
