Do you know something, I can't wait to be debt free and here is a reason why.....

I work in a small high street, and I quite often go down the high street (on my spendy days of course NSK! :D) and into the local Coop. Every Wednesday-Friday there is a lovely old man who is selling the Big Issue, but unfortunately I cannot afford to spare my money to buy a copy off him. Sometimes I do, but not always. It absolutely breaks my heart that I cannot help him out each week. My budgets are so tight that I cannot justify this spend at the moment.

Once I am debt free I will definitely be working into my budget the weekly £2.50 to get my magazine.

I live in a very affluent area, and this high street is a reflection of this, I do hope that for the time being all those who can don't walk past him without helping him out. I know that come the end of next year he will be one of the first people who I visit and I'm really looking forward to it.

Sorry for rambling on, but I just got a bit upset and wanted to air how I was feeling.
    October make £10/day currently £11.02

Congrats to shyspender on hitting 25 SFDs and massive congrats to LoveaDove for becoming debt free!:j

It's great how many posters on this thread have the little DF roll of honour icon :money: And NSK shall be joining the roll soon!

SFD yesterday. Spend day today- bought some tickets for 2nd job training event and also a gift on Am@zon from their Black Friday deals :T

Paid all of my CCs today too. A total of £205 - min on 2 and the bigger chunk to the one which 0% deal runs out soonest. Updated my total debt amount for when my loan payments come out. Slowly but surely coming down!

My budgets have recommenced from payday- 27th. So just tomorrow to land a SFD and Novembers all tied up! Should get 23/25 SFDs. Woo. Signed up for Dec.

  • I think you need to buy them all and pile them in a big triangular form in your living room and take a picture and SHARE it will us all!

Pretty sure if I did this and only shared a picture instead of sharing the chocolates you'd all come running after me with pitchforks! (Well, the non-vegans amongst you, anyway! Kat, you can have some very dark chocolate instead!) :rotfl:

Another NSD, on track to hit 23, although if we count non-productive days (NPDs!) I'm on 28.9 by now I think!

Secretly (okay, not that secretly) looking forward to the weekend because I get to have a proper bonding session with my spreadsheet to get December set up and move the last of November's savings into my debt-attack account, woo hoo!

Pretty impressed with how much I've managed to not spend in November, though I did have a serious weak moment yesterday when, standing waiting at a crossing, a guy came and stood behind me with two takeaway pizzas! The smell was amazing! Might start hovering around the back doors of Dominos begging for scraps at this rate! :rotfl:
    February: 5/15 NSD

*Phew* Right I think I have calmed down a little bit...hope you are all having a good end to your week's- only a day left of the challenge, I'm not going to lie, trying to achieve 25 SFD's has been tough and I am a couple short, but pleased with my progress- full conclusion tomorrow I feel.

    Congrats NSK and loveadove!

Oops i've had an unplanned spendy day today....treated myself to a bottle of wine on the way home from work. Was planning to buy a bottle on Sunday but this way I can make it last and enjoy it all weekend....sort of a justification? Feeling a bit guilty but its the only unplanned spend day this month and it just sneaks into my food budget. It means i can only achieve 22 SFD's rather than the 23 i thought but will be worth it!

    SFD21/25
    Lunch to work 18/18
    Food £99/£100 (including foodbank donation)
    Foodbank £3.59/£3
    Toiletries £3/£10
    Moneymade £7.09/£80
  • I'm sorry but I have to share this conversation- it really made me realise how much my mind set has changed this year.

Whilst having a chat with my OH on the phone earlier we were talking about what we would be doing with our evenings. He told me that he had been invited out for drinks with friends and asked me what I would be doing with my evening...I replied, 'Well I *must* set up my December spreadsheet, I have completely neglected it' (Usually I have the following month's spreadsheet set up several days before the start of the new month). His reply was 'Are you serious?' And in a very serious tone I replied 'Just because I'm debt free doesn't mean I can neglect my finances and fall into that old trap again! I need to learn how to save now!' he just laughed, but also said 'you're right.' He's very supportive of my DF mindset and has encouraged me on my SFD's etc... but hasn't quite had his own lightbulb moment yet. :)

Right time for Spreadsheets... and cake...

  • Saw our dream wedding venue, a nice old cosy hunting lodge. Quite oldy worldy etc. Amaing setting, menu, staff BUT too bl**dy expensive. Wish i hadnt seen it now. Hormonal tear coming....
DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/25
  • Thrifty I am a strong believer of keeping your eyes set on what you want and the price you are willing to pay! It will fall into place because you know full well that anything too expensive will deviate from the specialness of your day because if all the debt you will have at the end... You will have a very special day, very lovely and exactly what you deserve but you won't get into debt for it. I have highs hopes for a Thrifty wedding....:T

Loveadove you are right... so glad you have a supportive OH though as well. My new "savings" spreadsheet will be constructed for the beginning of January as I have nothing to save right now... but it;s imperative that we set ourselves up for the future now.. I want to save 10% of my wages in a long term savings account.. I have many ideas of what I want to do though.... let me know what yours are.. I am always intrigued.... I will also have a "I need a holiday tomorrow" fund and a "bike just broke down" fund.. oh then there's the "travel" fund, the "I want a house" fund..etc etc... many diaries are planned...lol!

Calling14 - that made me chuckle as well.."Loveadog"... :rotfl:

Kanagdoo - Mummy just asked me what choccies I wanted for Christmas and I told her very dark with either orange or salt or chilli added... she just said "ugh"..... :rotfl:

Avogirly I have often walked passed a Big Issue seller and have not been able to justify the spend. I think I might find one on the way to work and give him some pennies... such a nice thought though. It's weird how much we think of others once we have come to grips with our own debt....thanks for sharing!:p

Traveller yes I have heard this bug is doing the rounds... I am better now but still a little queasy.. I have overtime tomorrow night that I need to be better for and since it's a night shift I am going to spend tomorrow in bed... best way to spend the day if you ask me...:)

Right now.. it's bed time for me.... Hope everyone is ready for the last day of November tomorrow....

    Onwards and Forever Upwards!

  • Yeay! there's so much good news on here, well done on being DF NSK! and on perfect wedding venues Thrifty...

We just picked up our gorgeous rescue kitten tonight. It's taken a bit longer than planned as she was poorly from her op. Intros with our cat have not gone quite to plan... oh dear. Looks like we are going to have to spend a bit of time helping them get used to each other and not fight. Ah well, at least we won't be spending money!

    have a top weekend all!
