And a massive CONGRATULATIONS!!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -

Wow well done Loveadove!!! :j:j:j
Its so inspiring seeing other people reach their goals, it shows it can be done which is just what you need to hear when you've got a looooong way to go:)
So I just want to say a HUGE thanks to NSK for this months task - I've learned loads and loads and its really made me think about a ton of different things. This has been my first full month on the debt-busting mission and it has really set me on my way.
I do think, however, that perhaps my circumstances are more suited to challenges other than this one. This is just because my finances are so much more complicated than just one pay day per month, we have that, rent two or three times, sporadic bonuses etc etc and all my 'systems' at home have been set up to deal with that. I thought that it would be simple enough to convert everything to monthly, and it was do-able but it made my life more complicated and I've come to the conclusion that more complicated is not a good thing on this journey
So while I think this is a brilliant challenge, I'm going to have to find a new motivational home to help me along!
So thank you to everyone and especially NSK - I'll still be following your diary for the big big announcement!!:):)

Hiya
2 more SFD's to reportI did give hubby £20 to do a top up shop the other day though which I forgot to report taking me just over my target. Pretty good though (for me)!
Realised I still haven't bought the food bank items so must do that tomorrow or Saturday. We are starting to run out of quite a few things and I am planning an online shop for Sunday/Monday if I can get a slot with Mr T.
Need to update my budgets and start thinking about December. I can see the shiny new thread is up so am excited to go and check it out
Most of my Christmas shopping is now done or ordered. Just need to get H something from M. Am going to suggest we don't buy gifts for each other but instead maybe go and see a show or something with M. Also need to get something else for Mum. I have got her a teddy bear and was thinking of a fleece blanket and then some flowers nearer the time. Will probably print out some photos for her too which she always seems to enjoy.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -
People, I bring grave news: this entire month has been a fraud! After signing up for the December challenge I looked on the November list and I am not included even though I signed up on page 4! I don't really exist here! I am SHOCKED and APPALLED and am taking this as a sign that I didn't need to do ANY of this and am actually ROLLING IN MONEY, so I'm off to spend all money saved on Ferrero Rocher!
Or maybe not! :rotfl:
Edited as I'm clearly bored, so did the maths. Based on the best deal on a 16 pack of Ferrero Rocher, which is £3 at ASDA accoring to My Supermarket, with the money I have saved this month I could buy 166 boxes of 16 sweets, which is a total of 2656 individually wrapped chocolates. Might be a bit much, even for me - although if the ambassador does feel like spoiling me, I'm willing to give it a go!
(Although I did read December and go, "Only 15 SFDs?! Pfft!" Methinks the Kangadoo doth get cocky despite only banking 23 in NOvember! Am very impressed by, and a bit envious of, shyspender!)
SFD here - was very good, had a lunchtime meeting in a cafe and only drank tap water and ate the banana I had hidden in my bag (that's not a euphemism!). Pay - or what counts as pay when you're self-employed - is in and I'll be ending the month with spare money in my account despite moving a load over to savings - on 1st November I had already eaten into my "pay" by over £100 so doing significantly better than pre-moneysaving!
Work situation is still severely up in the air but trying not to worry too much over the weekend because there's nothing I can do about it until next week.February: 5/15 NSD0 -
EyesWideOpen- I hope your lil poppet makes a speedy recovery and starts to put on some weight. It must be very worrying for you!
Well done on the 17 days, and keeping one eye on the MSE mindset despite recent events! What was the book called that you have been reading it sounds fascinating?
Thank you for the kind words. She's a lot better and has turned the corner now. It is all very worrying when they are so little (she's only 3 months old). She's my second though so I think I have been calmer with her and the drama than I would have with my first - if you see what I mean.
The book was great, covered the ethics of shopping the economical implicwtions of shopping and not shopping as well as the values in society which drives us to shop. It was similar to a debt free diary, one chapter for each month of the year, sharing the ups and downs. I'd highly recommend it, only problem is its in Norwegian (I live and work in Norway at the moment). However, the book mentioned similar groups and material from the UK and US so English equivalents should be easy to find. The book also mentions a documentary which is on YouTube called "what would Jesus buy"? It's made by the Supersize me producer - so you know what kind of documentary it will be. I am hoping to have time to watch it this weekend.
I'm off to finish catching up on the thread and will update my totals tomorrow. SFD today though - yayFinally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!
Janus Illusion challenge #87

yeay!! LoveaDove huge well done to you!
and shyspender, wow, the full 25 and it's only the 28th...brilliant! I need some lessons off you!
Seeing everyone's achievements on here is as good as seeing your own!
We managed to get £200 more than I estimated saved at the end of the month to put towards the non 0% card that I want gone by the end of the year, so we are well on track with that, which feels very good! I think that's in no small part due to this thread, so BIG thanks guys! I will update sig when we pay it over on Saturday. Can't wait!!
Hope you feel better NSK, hot bath, hot toddy and long sleep...
