Personally I love Milan, (I lived there....) but I'd not go there if I had just one week, and ...though many think its heinous I feel the same about the lakes, especially given victory's interests.
I do agree, she cannot fit it all in. Venice and Tuscany or Venice and Rome are a common choice for splitting a holiday.
Personally I'd probably do Tuscany, then they could do day trips from where every they choose to other places if they really are more 'flibbertyjibberty' than the rest of us.
Given those intersts in buildings but not art then Tuscany could encompass a day in Pisa, two in Florence and a day in sienna, for example, maybe a trip to A hill town or somewhere like Luca if they cannot imagine a second day in sienna or a third in Florence. That's the four days, and two in Venice. Too many stops means too much time on train in my opinion, where as in Tuscany you can hire a car for a day for trip out, but train to the main centres from which ever you base in. Personally, we'd centre a Tuscany trip in Florence, but that's obviously biased by it being dh's home town, but its central to Pisa and sienna for train trips and its....Florence. :rotfl: or you could spend one day in Rome, and fly back from there. Personally I'd be exhausted, Most of the holiday will have been spent travelling though.
If anyone tells you 'you should have.....' When you get back victory, poke them with a wooden spoon. Ultimately its your holiday, you guys choose! Just....leave time and energy to actually enjoy it. What's the point of a romantic evening meal in some of the most lauded cities in the world in a country that knows love, if you are both too exhausted to make the most of it!?
Again 100% right, OH says we are flying into Venice so that is a definent , hey we have a decision, one measly one but hey it is progress:T:T0 -

Marco Polo or Treviso?
I second a trip to Murano or Burano (preferably both)
Also: A trip up the bell tower in St marks square, the Secret Itinerary tour of the Doges Palace (you get to see the cell where Casanova was kept and all sorts of unusual rooms) book in advance and so no queuing.
Eat in the back streets rather than on the main canal
Buy some jewellry0 -
Just wanted to throw this in as a possibility.

They do other Italian tours too.
I've not done this one as I've been to the places it covers but I did the Classical Spain one and it was really great, a super blend of guided tours and free time. It's not like a coach tour in a traditional sense (not that I've ever done one). All the coach does is take you places that you'd otherwise have to drive but you don't have to worry about finding parking!0 -
Victory I pm'ed a the hotel I mentioned, but its been done up. I didn't check prices because I don't know your dates. But my experience there is very much better than any other italian three star. Its spotless. DH stays there when ever he goes with out me if his cousins flat isn't available of there is no friend with a. Spare room, and he loves it.....he has that charm though, and always talks us into a room with a canal view, lol.
You won't want to spend anytime in a three star room in Venice though ...you'll be out and about!0 -
Out of interest LIR which hotel is it?0

Hotel abazza
http://www.abbaziahotel.com/it/
I explained in pm the compromise of location to victory. But I would also say generally I take a star off for comparison in Italy ( I think of four as three star for example) but I think abazza is fair ....or was:). If its been done up I cannot see it worse accept one never knows about management.
Its certainly not the Danieli though, lol..
For a short stay, being near station has tremendous advantage.0 -

For a short stay, being near station has tremendous advantage.Great minds....I gave her that link further up the thread. We have stayed there several times and in the sister hotel Abbazia De Luxe which is overlooking the GC on the front above the coffee shop (rather than down the calle where the Abbazia is)
Lovely hotel, ideal location, nice garden which is rare in Venice for the price, and near a great GC view reasonably priced restaurant!!0 -
Oh sorry poet, I missed your link.
. I have never stayed in the other, didn't even know it existed!
Is it nice?
Honestly, I wouldn't stay there if I were staying the week (mainly because i'd rather be in another part of Venice) but for two/three days, definitely a great place. We recommend it to friends often, unless they want the gilt and swags and burano glass on the rooms experience.
We also stayed in a family room there once with a friend ...last time I went actually, and that was really nice too. Not a mean second bed but two really decent ones.0 -

Yes, the second is more like a B&B but with suites, breakfast was great. Very handy location too.
If we are staying longer than a few nights we usually stay in Dorsoduro preferably in an apartment.0
