1week in Italy, wanting to fly to genoa to go to portofino. Then Pisa. Rome and venice, madness.?
You see want to get about as only have 1 week but genoa to venice is 5 hours on the train, they say Pisa is just an afternoon stop and Rome interests OH, he says he will not drive as Italian roads are too much for him so trains and buses it is then:D
Should we book one flight in to genoa ( closest to portofino) but depart from a different airport?
Is it doable, the train from portofino to venice is 70 euros, should we book different places for accommodation?
How would so much all work in a week?
The plane to portofino lands at 12.45 pm daytime straight to portofino, 35 k away stay there the first night?
Are taxis expensive?
Any help would be gratefully received thank you

Give more time to Rome. It's magnificent.
An hour in Pisa is enough! There's a tower. It leans.
My geography isn't good enough to plan your flights etc though.0 -
If you start at Genoa, then Portofino, then Pisa, then go down to Rome then consider flying to Venice and then fly home to the UK.
In the Portofino/Pisa region you'd be missing Cinque Terre, Luca, Florence, San Giamano, Siena.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

I agree with RichardW, to fly out from Venice for the return journey, as you are going down the Mediterranean coast and finishing on the Adriatic side. The itinery that you have is fairly tight and will not allow you a lot of time to relax and see a lot, especially if you are relying on train and bus travel schedules, as against driving yourself around. It is about a 5 hr drive from Rome to Venice. Pisa to Rome about 3.5 hrs. If you are using the bus, then probably longer, but cannot say for sure as I drive everywhere here.
Book different hotels in the cities you want to visit, otherwise you will spend most of your time travelling.
A taxi is expensive!!
Italian roads, especially motorways are not that bad. In the cities and towns e.g. Rome it can be very unnerving though if not used to the Italian driving style though!!As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
Italy is expensive especially the major tourist spots like Rome and Venice, you don't get many euros to the pound these days.
You can get some bargain hotels if you are going out of season though try Booking.com or Trivago for example..0 -
Thanks for all the replies:D so genoa arrive lunch time and fly back from venice?
Thinking genoa land, straight to portofino, afternoon there then catch the train to Pisa, 1st night there, next day Pisa, train to Rome, day 2 and 3 there , day 4 venice leaving 3 days. Hum seems a rush rush:D0 -
It is a rush rush.
Where in the UK are you?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I would either leave out Rome or leave out Venice, I'd do either:
Genoa, Portofino, Pisa, Florence, Venice or Genoa, Portofino, Pisa, Roma or Genoa, Portofino, Milan, Como, Verona, Venice.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Crumbs, even that written down like that does seem rush rush, too much maybe?
Genoa airport-portofino-pisa, not thought of florence, Milan, Como or verona , OH says land straight to Portofino, the late afternoon train to Pisa, sleep there, up the next day- pisa for a bit then train to Rome, Rome 2 days, then train to Venice which takes 5 1/2 hours, fly back out from there?
Genoa to portofino is 35km, Pisa to Rome 2 3/4 hour train, Rome to Venice 5 1/2 hours, the more I write the more madness it seems;)0 -
I was thinking there is a skyscanner flight for £84 return but that is from London to genoa and back not into genoa and back from Venice, does it work out this end more expensive to buy 2 lots of flights (meaning 2 lots of taxes etc) never flown into one airport but out from another before....
Should I buy the flights now ready for next May? Then leave the accomodation nearer the time? Oh they say a holiday is a rest, need to work it all out first:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
