Hev don't get disheartened, this really does work but it takes time. Those doing lots have been doing it for a long time (well most of us). My one tip to you which helped me in my early days is don't let anything you have done slip eg if you have got an area clean and tidy keep it that way - then you feel you are moving forward. I still have areas yet to be tackled but feel good when I see what has been achieved. Right 15 minutes more and I should be done.
Ironing doing 30 minutes a night to try to get on top of the pile. Today's wash was a no iron one so the pile has not grown. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
As a suggestion for the signature hev,
I must remember I'm only human, perfect people are boring and to just keep smiling!
Oh, the lists up for tomorrow by the way
*sneeks back off to try to get some more of the living room done*
One day I might be more organised...........

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about your dog, Katherine, it sounds like you're resolved to the fact though. You're being kind.
Hev, getting your head round the idea is the first step and declairing your intention is the next. Don't be overwhelmed. All our houses and family set-ups are different. Do small things 'til they become a habit. Like some one else said here, it didn't get like that overnight so don't expect too much too soon.
Pigpen, glad to hear you're up and about again!
I'm doing extras again tonight, but I'll save the airing cupboard for bathroom day. More kitchen cupboards I think. I really fancy a big feed tonight too so I'll create more washing up. How one person can make so much is a mystery and I really hate washing up.
Going to ring my Bro to see how SIL's first scan went today, I've been worrying since they told me when she was just 5 weeks pregnant. I'll still worry but hopefully a little less!

hev - Don't worry about it, babysteps are the key! I've been doing homemaking along these line for 7 years this October and I still have days when I just can't find anything, you can't get in any rooms for stuff and there are no clean/ironed clothes to wear (I end up rummaging through the ironing pile at least twice each week looking for a clean top:rotfl: ). The house didn't get this way overnight and it won't get better overnight either;) We're here whenever you need to rant
Now I'm off to watch "Filthy Homes From Hell" on ITV2...already I'm feeling ill! :eek:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

hev don't worry the tin opener will turn up when you least expect it. I have a key for next door and likewise so does my friend. Quite often we will eave notes for each other 'borrowed.....' So when I can't find something I ring next door (how lazy is that!!!!!!!) to see if it's there.
My friend will ring and say are you using the oven if not switch it on to 180 and I'll be round in 10 mins! Usually when she is having a dinner party or at Christmas when one oven ain't enough.
We had lasagne for dinner, I put it together bunged it in the oven and then went to finish off the grass from last week. Good job I did cos it has just thrown it down again here.
Just downloaded the pics from the trip onto here ready to go on a CD for school in the morning.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
Right theres only one day left to finish my Spring cleaning lists as on Thursday it will be summer (someone may have to remind the weather man about this!). Anything not done by tomorrow night (prob over half the list in some rooms) will be ignored and the list thrown away! Hang on that doesnt sound like much of an incentive to do anything ... night off tomorrow then :rotfl:Millions long for immortality who don't know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon.0

Hello to all the new people! Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps. I can't believe the difference in my house now ... even if I don't do much on any one day the basic grot has been dealt with and it doesn't take much to keep it looking fairly OK.
Hugs to everyone with worries. Friends, pets, family (especially OHs) can be the most rewarding, fulfilling, wonderful aspects of your life but also give you the most cause for tears.
Did almost everything on the list on Monday and quite a lot of Tuesday's yesterday evening. Just as well because this evening was a governors' meeting (yawns rudely).0 -
Evening everyone.
Yesterday, I copied the list and crossed off what I had done instead of just using the one I'd printed and I put my extras on etc but today I opted to use the time to catch up with what you lot have been up to. Lil_me - do hope your friend and her Mum are coping ok. Katherine - sorry for you too.
Welcome to newbies (very slightly newer than me).
I am working at level 3 but I don't mean to dishearten anyone if they think I've jumped straight in there, I'm no superwoman, believe me.
We have always been used to living in new houses which are relatively easy to keep clean/organise if you are strict with yourself about clutter (and you have to be 'cause they are small). Two years ago nearly we moved into a 1930's semi which needed everything replacing/decorating and is much, much bigger than anything I've been used to. The kitchen, bathroom, electrics, central heating and decorating everywhere but two rooms have all been done (mostly by DH and me). The windows also need replacing, so are a bit grots.
Trying to do all that work (I work from home, have 3 kids, DS2 is 2 1/2 and study with the OU) with everything else has meant my usual cleaning schedules went by the wayside. I was finding it really difficult to get back on track and was feeling low about the grime. My old technique in the new houses was to scrub everywhere on one day and S&S on the other days. This just is not possible now/in this house - it would probably kill me. However, I was already probably Level 1/2 but very hit and miss!
So that's where you all have really helped me, the lists have helped me get on top of things, an area a day is so much more manageable. You've motivated me to sort out clutter in other areas, including my head :rotfl: and I feel so much more positive and in control. Thanks to everyone :T .
Plus, keeping up with all your daily struggles is better than any soap on tv!
Off to straighten up before bed, and I'll catch you all tomorrowProud to have dealt with our debt. DFW Nerd 1474
