Are you sure they cannot be sold in the UK?

I ask because Holland & Barratt are currently selling them in their high street stores and online:

Thank you for the link: I shall investigate.

Official letters announcing that their sale was banned were issued in March, in England and Scotland (not sure about Wales and Northern Ireland). There are some exceptions (for their use as a flavouring, and for solutions where they are dissolved in water or ethanol) but I don't think these apply to the products here.

... and Amazon.co.uk sell them too.

Not a third party seller, but direct from Amazon:
I won't look for any more, but I bet there are many others.

The information you need is in this thread.

I get the impression that there is more than one company involved.
You need to establish just who you sent the money to.

By the way, the banks will also be closed tomorrow... it's a bank holiday.

Indeed. It is not only the tax authorities who find that enforcement against Amazon is difficult.

Here is a link to the official web page:
    http://www.food.gov.uk/science/novel/unauthorised/

Scroll down towards the bottom and look at the middle line of the table: from there you can download the official letter.

There is an accurate article on-line here:http://www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/Regulation/Raspberry-ketones-on-sale-without-novel-foods-approval

and this is what Boots the chemist has to say, including a sentence noting that they "can no longer be sold legally in the UK":

I've also been scammed. Rang up the number on the delivery note and the guy was rather off and told me it was tough that they would not refund.

I rang my bank and they are sending me a form or something to fill in and send back and have cancelled any other payments (the guy did say he had cancelled it but at least the bank will have done it too).

Feel so stupid. Only bought these as they were coming up at £2.49 and that is what I agreed to pay and £94 has come off my credit card today.

Hopefully will get the money back somehow.

  • Hi all, my girlfriend has fallen for this trap, and we're currently trying to deal with our credit card company to get a refund. They are asking for proof of the advertised price, but the website has since changed to make the extra money visible. If anyone has a screenshot of the page as it was before we would be incredibly grateful if you could message it to me.
    Many thanks

Please provide a link to the webpage you are interested in and the approximate date.

You won't be able to post the link directly, but just replacing a few dots with blanks should be possible.

A member of my family has just been caught with this scam. I was able to see the website, and it did not have any T&C's visible anywhere. When I looked at the site two days later, the front page had been changed to show T&C's.

However, the issue is really with the UK Banks and their Chargeback scheme. The 2009 Regulations are quite clear, yet Banks continue to ignore them, and actually force their customers to pay.

In this case, the Bank is actively participating in the Fraud, and the Bank is owned by us, the British People. I am talking about the Halifax Bank.

I have just talked with their Complaints Officer in Leeds by telephone. I had written them a Letter of Complaint, explaining that the Bank is actively participating in a fraudulent transaction against their own customer, but they insist the customer has to pay.

They just endlessly explain that it's not their fault, and under the Chargeback scheme, they cannot give you your money back. In this case, the goods that the £180 is supposed to pay for, have not even been delivered.

The actions of the Halifax Bank of Leeds are inappropriate, and they seem more willing to participate in a fraudulent transaction, rather than look after the financial interests of their customers. I would say that they should actually consider if they have a 'financial duty of care' to their customers.

The result will be that these Bank Accounts will be closed, but they don't seem to care because they really are 'Too Big to Fail' and they certainly don't care about their customers that's for sure.

    Alex
