In my view the road should be nationalised, yes it may costs ten of millions, but that and more is presently having to be spent widening the M6 because traffic is not diverting onto the M6 Toll.

The M6 isn't being widened in the Birmingham area. Traffic managment is being installed which can allow the use of the hard shoulder as an extra lane during busy periods.

Extra lane = widened in my eyes.

There's a sign on the M62 somewhere that uses the phrase "discontinuous emergency refuge" to describe a hard shoulder with the occasional break in it.

OK, 3 lanes, a hard shoulder and emergency refuge lay-bys. It is still not widening the road.

I have used the M6 toll road-but never use it travelling to Devon-found it pointless, always did M6/M5 or vice versa.

Saying that the OP is probably back home now.:D

A no-brainer if travelling at rush hour. Especially after queueing from Lymm to Sandbach!

So very bad I presume? Worth paying £5.50 to bypass it?

I took the toll route because I needed to get to my appointment fast but on the journey back I'm in no real rush. But if it's going to cost me an hour more in traffic I'd rather pay the toll

The toll doesn't bypass Lymm to Sandbach!

Why are you asking about a journey you've already taken?
