    or save a fiver, and if the M5/M6 is busy, head up the M4 past Reading, M25 clockwise, M1 North, then at junction 24 take the A50 west and you'll have missed Birmingham's traffic issues...

    I really hope this post is sarcastic.

    Given they plan on hitting the M6 at 10AM, this route will drop them onto the M25 in the middle of rush hour.

    The Jeremy Kyle types can't afford the toll road. Lovely isn't it :p

    I have a feeling it's not. If they'd ever been on the M25 at rush hour I don't think they'd be quite so agreeable!

    I think he must write the sat-nav software that takes you on any road without any consideration for traffic. It's still cheaper than the toll road, right? :D

    Agree with the others, if you actually look at a map you will see that for M5/M6 the toll road makes no sense whatsover. If there is a problem where M5 joins M6 then the best alternative is to come off M5 at junction 6, then use A449 through Kidderminster and Wolverhampton and rejoin M6 at junction 12. This is only worth doing if the delays on M5/M6 are at least 30 minutes.

    By the time you have sat in the traffic to go out of your way to join the toll road you will be past the bottlenecks anyway.

    161 miles 2h 38m M5 -> M6

    189 miles 3h 7m M5 -> M42 -> M6 toll -> M6

    I put start destination as M5 near Bristol. So add how long it takes to get there.

    I think the OP just wants to drive on a toll road because they can.

    lol no was advised to do it, but the calculations don't really add up :)
  • The trouble with using the toll road other than when absolutely unavoidable is that it will encourage similar schemes all over.

    Tax on the car when you buy it, road tax (known now as VED), tax on the tax on the fuel, tax on the insurance and then pay to use the roads by tolls.

    Don't let them take any more from you than you can help, it only encourages the swine.

    I don't use toll roads as a matter of principal.
