Hi Pukkamum
I have many an odd dream and can usually interpret them myself. But I admit the recurring dreams where I switch off/unplug an electrical appliance (I can't be 100% but I don't think it is the same appliance), but the appliance continues running/making a noise, baffle me.

Oh what a wonderful thread Pukkamum, Thank you! Its fascinating the way you analyse dreams.
I have always had very vivid dreams from childhood Ive suffered terribly with nightmares where I wake up drenched in perspiration and utterly terrified, I still have them now as an adult, I do also suffer from chronic insomnia, I don't have a problem falling asleep but staying asleep..... anyway my re occurring dreams are always about snakes, I'm absolutely terrified of them in my dreams I always get bitten, have always wondered what this means........ I also have dreams about toilets where I desperately need to go but its always in an open public place and I cant use it, probably a good thing as I think if I did manage to go in my dreams Id probably wet the bed lol! My Nightmares are frightening always about someone dying.... in a terrible way.
I often dream about falling, scary feeling!
I also have dream paralysis where I cant move, speak, scream or anything!
I don't like my dreams they always leave me feeling upset and scared!:(
Thank you in advance I would love to know why I dream about the things I do!LOVE isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live WITHOUT0 -
An aircraft crash in a dream can mean you have concerns about a plan or project, the size of the aircraft denotes how ambitious the plan is.
The aircraft breaking up indicates that the project needs to be broken down into smaller more manageable pieces.
Many thanks for your time. It's given me food for thought!!'And our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears'0 -
Hi judi, flying dreams are an expression of freedom, leaving behind limitations and restrictions, flying with your children indicates that by nurturing yourself you can gain freedom from limitations and restrictions.
A river represents the flow of your life and the events in your life, walking beside the river suggests you feel slightly on the sidelines of your own life, perhaps not fully in control of things that happen, as if you are watching your life go by.
The bank crumbles, you are going to fall in but you stop yourself by waking up, your subconcious is telling you to jump into your life, control its flow and the events.
I am inclined to think the dreams are connected by nuturing yourself, the first dream, you can free yourself from limitations and restrictions, and this will aid you in controlling the flow of your life.
Don't suppose you've got any ideas as how to stop reoccurring dreams do you? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The only way to stop recurring dreams is to deal with the issues they are raising and looking for clues in the dreams, often our dreams help us find the solutions to or ways to deal with problems xI don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Hi this sleep paralysis it occurs when dreaming to prevent you moving around, however if you wake suddenly in the midst of a dream you are still paralysed with the dream imagery still being percieved, this leads to hallucination, usually as yours is it takes the form of a dark shadowy figure.
So you are in fact awake but still in the dream world, this is why you have a realisation you are still dreaming, often you will fall back to sleep very quickly once your body has relaxed and you will have the impression that the waking was just part of the dream.
This occurs during stressful periods in your waking life when you aren't getting quality sleep, when you wake in the night your body is tired but your mind is very active, triggering the hallucination.
When it happens you need to try and relax your whole body, this should send you back to sleep.
You need to try and relax more before bed, perhaps avoid stimulants, such as caffeine computer work etc.
Genuine sleep paralysis is not as "easy" to wake up from I'm afraid. I've suffered for many years with it and night terrors, if only relaxing was the answer. I can be awake but trapped asleep for hours. Doctors have told me there's a chemical imbalance when I'm asleep and that's why it occurs. My only help was good quality counselling, because as you say the trigger (for me at least) is anxiety. If you were to meet me you would not be able to tell I suffer from an anxiety disorder.
I am LOVING this thread OP - I think dreams and sleep are fascinating. More so when I suffer with a sleep disorder.
Pity I can't remember my last dream, possibly because my 5wk old doesn't let me sleep in order to dream! If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

I suffer from night terrors too, always have done from a child and never grew out of them, we are are rare folk as most grow out of it as a child don't they. I scare my husband half to bits sometimes!
I experienced sleep paralysis only once in my life, and had it 3 times during that one night. Absolutely terrifying stuff (felt almost paranormal for me, does it you?) , and I pray I never experience that again. You have my sympathies if you have that regularly0 -
This thread is so interesting! Can you do me please?
I have a recurring dream, although I've not had it for maybe 6 months/ a year or so.
I dream that we go on a much anticipated holiday (my, my fella and our 2 kids). The transfer coach pulls up in front of a hotel (sometimes different, but quite often a big white one with a sweeping curved drive - looks stunning!).
Whilst on this holiday people chase us (or maybe just chase me, not sure). I'm not sure who it is, but sometimes they run after me and in my dream I'm actually running fast, other times I'm hiding with a fear that 'they' will find me. Whilst hiding I find secret corridors and staircases to hide in, I don't think I've ever been found in my dream.
I wake up frightened sometimes from these, and I always think if I ever go on holiday in real life & my hotel is the white one from my dreams I wouldn't go in!0 -
