what recipes can I make that we can take out with us over this lovely summer, instead of curled up butties.
thought of sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche, cake, but would love some new ideas.
Thanks T0 -
Depending how adventurous your kids are falafel balls carry very well and they are fabulous in pitta bread with a bit of houmous, home-made salsa or sweet chilli sauce. They are easy and cheap to make too and healthy into the bargain.0

As this has fallen from the front page of Old Style, I'll add it to the existing thread on picnic food

I am going to a picnic on Saturday with friends I have not seen since I went into the convent, and who now have young children. Without going mad (due to dire financial straights) I'd like to go beyond the cheese sandwich, so...
I'm thinking cheesy scones rather than bread
Some sort of oatie/jam thing using half a pack or\f cake mix plus oats and jam
Something else with other half cake mix - ideas please?
Cucumber sticks.
Any more suggestions, please and thank you??0 -
The cheesy scones sound lovely. Another bread alternative is the tortilla style wraps (there was a recipe posted recently and they sound easy and cheap). You could pack the fillings in tupperware so everyone could help themselves on the day.
I like the idea of the cucumber sticks too. Carrots are cheap - could you cut those into sticks too? I love hummus or other dips (and there's a thread on dips on the go at the mo) with cucumber and carrot sticks and little cherry tomatoes. I make the tomatoes into "lollipops" using cocktail sticks and dunk them in the dip.
Not so healthy but how about sausage rolls or cold cocktail sausages? I used to love those on picnics as a child.
I'm no use on the sweet side I'm afraid - flapjacks and Twinks oatmeal cookies are all I can make but they are cheap and easy.
Hope you have nice weather for the picnic!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
